had myself a ribeye tonight, nice big one, australian though. I had already had a bit of chinese after work, but then this thread got my stomach growling. Had to go out and pay for a good chunk of meat.

In the Yanomamo language, there are two words for hungry: one, meaning truly hungry, and the other, meaning you've eaten and so are technically full, but it was crap veggies and you are craving meat big time.

How much does a kilo of ribeye go for in the UK?

Wow Ben, even with a 'poor' photo that looks superb. I can see chopped chilli's and garlic which combined with that steak looks mouth watering!

Agree with whoever said that Waitrose do the best supermarket steak but if the missus is cooking in any quantity for a dinner party etc she uses Costco...you'd assume that it's going to be great chunks of cheap meat but it's even better than Waitrose. The Tuna and fillets we get from there are sublime.....

I understand why some people want their steaks done medium but, for me, it has to be rare every time! Can't beat a really good bit of 1.5inch+ fillet that's just been shown the grill/bbq on either side.

Tonight though, as the missus is in London and I can't be arsed cooking I shall be calling on the lads at Artemis for a large lamb shish kebab (as per below) or if I'm feeling more unhealthy the full mixed special (apologies for polluting a steak thread with pictures of filthy kebabs but I know there are lot of 'bab lovers on here...)

kismetcapitan - missed the local butchers this afternoon as they knock off early on friday's but managed to get some good looking Ribeye's in my local shop - £12.99 a Kilo - 100% Scotch beef lovelyness, nicely marbled too!

Not sure there is a market for artistic shots of kebabs lol. I took these two as a demonstration of a womens saturday lunch versus a blokes saturday lunch. Her's might win on aesthetic appeal but I know I enjoyed mine so much more...(cheeky small doner)

I"m useless with her Nikon D40 but they do make them 'babs look appealing!

well guys on the subject of steak im in the land of the big steak at the moment the USA
forget about that ropey old stuff the uk call steak i have had the best steak ever while i have been here ,i even stopped eatting it in the uk because some of it is that ropey does,nt matter were you seem to buy it from
sat in the hard rock cafe florida last night ,ordered a steak burger,mediem rare ,came cooked to perfection and was simply the best bit of steak i have ever had.
any one coming over must simple try one

if your in FL you must go to DelFriscos on Lee Road just off the I4, it isnt a tourist trap its a real i am USA locals/celebs/footballers only place. Trust me i've been eating steaks in the US for 17 years. Or Charlies Steak house on the I-Drive, bit more touristy though!

I've been to Florida and had all manner of steak meals out there (who hasn't actually)....I don't recall the quality being as good as a prime bit of aberdeen angus? Might have been going to the wrong places but I recall quantity being the priority over quality (quality was good but emphasis seemed to be on putting half your bodyweight on the plate)

thanks dave i think were down i-drive tonight,after the epcot 4th july fireworks so by the time we,ve managed to get out of there i,ll be ready for a steak.
all the placesi,ve been in the USA and had a steak the standard has been far better than the uk and half the price for twice as much
thats one thing in the uk that greats my gears when you pay top money for a steak when you go out,when it comes you have a job to find it on your plate,and by the time you have cut the fat of it it,s only half the size it came out the kitchen
i think sky its got the best idea cook your own

I don't exactly dine with Ramsey personally but even the 'good' restaurants I go to, I've never had to cut any fat off a fillet. In fact, I can't recall a time recently where I"ve had a fillet and left any of it on the plate due to grissle or fat.
Not saying the steaks aren't better over there but not grumbling at some of the ones I've had over here...

If your down the I-Drive then try Charlies Steak House, its just beside the Wyndam Orlando tucked behind Ripleys. You'll need to book though and dont turn up in dayglo tops n shorts (LOL). Either the Fillet Migon or the Porterhouse is the way to go. Delfriscos is another 30 mins drive north up the I-Drive.

OK, I think i'm going to go out tonight for a Steak, so can anyone reccomend anywhere near Sheffield/Chesterfield/Worksop area for the Best Steak Restaurant?

We're having a dinner party tonight as it's mother in laws birthday. I'm dropping hints that a nice bit of steak would go down well but she thinks it's boring and doesn't test her culinary skills enough (it has to be said, she is a great cook).
As she will be going shopping for all the bits though she could get some steak and do for sunday dinner tomorrow

The good news was that we DID have steak last for dinner. Absolutely cracking bit of fillet (Costco) which Tash did with a homemade madiera sauce, dauphanaise potatoes and some grean beans. Starter was equally good, pan fried sea bass with a chorizo, garlic and something or other jus thing
Desert, again, made from scratch including making those chocholate cups by painting melted chocholate into a mold...a work of art actually! She only had the vague 'ump when her creme brullee (sic) blowlamp thing ran out of gas...something to do with me borrowing it last weeked to solder some 4 gauge power/earth cables for the car stereo (would have taken me forever with a soldering iron!)

Can't fault her presentation....tasty as well!
