available replacement turbo's
please bear with me on this as im new to the skyline scene....been away with the cossies for years!
just reading a few posts about the standard ceramic turbos letting go fairly regularly,so am wondering what is available as an upgrade/replacement. twin turbo's set up rather than replacement to one large turbo. just a bit concerned about the ceramic ones letting go-what would be a good replacement for say400 bhp ish..... thanks in advance |

Kill two birds with one stone mate, keep the turbos for 400bhp, if you were worried about everything that could go wrong with the Skyline you would have kept with the cossies. Buy an aftermarket ecu (Apexi PFC for instance) induction kit and decat exhaust for the figures you're looking for and it'll solve your other thread problem of the speed limiter.

Just keep the turbo's about 1 bar and you should be ok.

thanks for that.
i know what you mean about things that COULD go wrong-i suppose all performance cars have their potential faults-when i had my big power cossies it was(actually everything!)gearboxes/diffs/turbos/head gaskets, blocks. when i had my m5 e39 it was vanos paranoia when i had my e46 smg m3 it was the box playing up every impreza ive had it was waiting for an engine to let go every evo waiting for the clutch to shit itself and apart from a head gasket on one of the cossies and a clutch on an evo 4 i havent had any issues(as he touches wood!). so i suppose its the same with the gtr.......things can go wrong, doesnt mean they will. i have today fitted a hks exhaust, decat pipe and found it already has a trust downpipe.i have also been advised to remove the restrictor in the small ruber pipe to allow 1 bar. so maybe next thing to do is go power fc then?ive been offered a new one and im sure paul at tdi north can map them.... |

Jay, mines just been mapped by Paul at TDi, have you had work done by him before? I'd get a boost controller before removing the restrictor, not essential but just makes sure that the boost dosent spike over ~1bar.

Quite a few work well with the GTR, Greddy Profec B Spec 2, HKS EVC, the best one would be the boost controller kit that adds on to the power FC as it "talks" to the ECU. Yeah Paul is a top bloke, i would say to tell him I sent you but he may charge you more LMAO
(round the corner from me too!)

If the wastegate is working properly, a boost controller will do nothing to help prevent spikes.
The EBC can only increase the amount of restriction in a wastegate signal line, not decrease it from manifold pressure. There is absolutely nothing wrong with just removing the restrictor. |

just been out in it for the first time since fitting the exhaust and removing the restrictor.
it definately more lively now and is going to the top of the standard boost gauge whereas it wasnt before.got a bit of a hesitation when coming on boost but it may be plugs or something daft. next things are power fc and boost controller and service....and new wheels! |
