minor annoyances
Hi guys,
new member here based in Hong Kong.. Just got a JDM R35 GTR last week and still currently in the break in period.. While I have kept it so far below the recommended rpms, etc the car feels great and is every bit as its hyped up to me.. Just a few minor annoyances I have noticed and was curious if anyone have any solutions to them: 1) The clock is stuck on JP time... I seem to only be able to adjust it by +/1 59 minutes... What do you guys do in time zones much further away? Also, I would imagine after a battery pull the clock would reset and would need to get set again.. How would you do this? 2) The navigation system obviously would not work since I'm not in Japan.. but every so often when I'm driving, the navigation voice would come on saying in japanese that I am about to cross a railroad crossing (when obviously I'm nowhere near any tracks)... any way to turn off the navigation and GPS completely? 3) Fingerprints on the LCD screen is driving me crazy.. Are there any of those screen protector thingies like they have for cellphones and cameras for sale? Or do I have to make my own? Might eliminate a lot of the fingerprints... 4) I have paired my nokia up with the bluetooth function.. making calls is fine.. but somehow I can't set it up to auto answer... everytime a phonecall comes in, it rings once, picks up the call and then immediately drops the call... I have to turn off the auto answer function in the menu and answer manually for it to work... Any solution? 5) Can't seem to get mp3s to play even after burning them to a CD.. system keeps trying to read the disc but doesn't work.. Is there a specific format that the CD has to be burned in? Also, lastly I was curious if people kept gear in N or 1 at a stop.... when driving a normal manual car, at a stop I would put the car back in neutral and take my foot off the clutch.. seems to be better for the transmission in the long run.. But obviously there is no clutch for the GTR.. so is it advisable to put the car in N or it doesn't really matter when waiting at a stoplight, etc? Thanks in advance for any advice! tfung |

Welcome, tfung!
I am actually able to use my Nokia 6110 phone with the car, but not my WM 6.0 phone. The system seems to work with some phones but not others. What color is your GT-R? Which dealer did you get it from? |

Now the last question is very interesting that I would like to know as well.
I've got used to shifting to N everytime at a stoplight. I was lead to believe if the stoplight was at a sloped backwards angle, this might put strain on the 1st gear clutch and wearing it out in the long run. I normally put it in N and just pull the handbrakes. Now which argument is correct? I have no idea now after Tokyo's post since its definately true there's more wear to disengange 1st gear and engage it again. And I dont have a habit of stepping on the footbrake while on stoplights. I was thought to always put my car in N ever since god knows how long ago I can drive so Tokyo's post really makes me wonder now. Anyone cares to chime in. |

i just feel with the DSG boxes you don't need to shift it to N. and the clunk that it makes seems to indicate there's more wear and tear than just letting the DSG box manage the torque whilst on the brakes at a stop. i could be wrong though...

I do what tokyo says, but my habit's formed from years of driving autos.
tfung - Nokia phones have issues, but some can be resolved. Your issue seems similar to what I was having. Switch off the autoanswer from the bluetooth screen, and change switch off the any key answer on your phone. Delete pairing and redo. Should work. Mine works at least. |

I would just step on the brake at a stop like driving an automatic...I thought it says something like that in the US manual. If not, just pull up enough on the handbrake to prevent the car from creeping forward.

i don't think you could possibly work them hard enough on the road to matter at a traffic light. on the track though, yes, they get super hot.

Tokyo - Cheers. Glad you got that sussed. You manage to talk to mine's about that gadget yet? Also - does your phone connect automatically when you go into the car? Mine connects, but instantly disconnects. Then I connect it manually and it works like a charm... wonder why. |
