Buzzing noise through speakers
I've got a really annoying buzzing noise coming through my speakers which has been caused by the amp I've fitted, it's a low level noise but never the less very annoying and clearly not right.
This noise which I assume is interference from somewhere is there even with the ignition on stage 1 (as well as stage 2 and engine running). The main earth off the battery looks good and has been cleaned up, the RCA leads have been replaced as it was thought they were at fault...but they were not! An interesting thing I have noticed is that when the stereo is (ignition position 1) on with the volume all the way down and you flash the lights or do something to drop the voltage, the buzzing noise changes pitch. I'm sure this is car related and not ICE related. Can anyone recommend a solution to this? I know the 34 GTR has more than 1 earth point, so maybe these need cleaning? I'm at a loss!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Shakey. |

I was gonna suggest one of them, but then he said that it does it with the engine off, and the igniton live?
Do R34s have the battery in the boot? If so earth your amp direct to the battery - cured the interference problems I had in my old BMW E30 |

Earthing to battery is actually the best way to wire an amp - the only reason its not done often is because most cars have the battery up front, and the earth wire should always be short as possible

Make sure you haven't run your rca cable down the same side of the car as the main 12V power cable coming from your battery. You still may get interference when you engine is off because of battery being in the boot and power running back down the car to your fuse box?

Not yet, but thanks for asking. I took the rear seats out and found the end of the earth cable which was bolted on behind the seat back, unfortunately the cable isn't long enough to go from the amp to the -battery terminal. I've just re bolted the cable in the boot area until I can pick up a longer cable.
I'll report back soon. Mark. |
