horrible horrible noise
It started with a crunching of the gears in 3rd and 2nd, just a quick crunch as if I'd not put the clutch down properly, so I've bought some redline heavy duty oil which is due to go in this saturday, I've been told the problem is more than likely a worn synchro,
But, today dropped our lass off at work and as I pulled up the crunching noise started and wouldn't stop! whether the clutch was in or out and whether the car was in gear or not the noise persisted, the car still drove though, after a minute the noise stopped, could this be that gear box is low on oil? I'm not driving it now till the oils been changed but am I ok to drive it down to the garage which is about 30 mins away? Whats your thoughts??? Cheers Si |

when in doubt, flatbed it. Or, (I have done this as flatbeds are just a quick call away in Seoul) I try and go as far as I can. If the problem pops up, I pull over and call the truck. With luck, you can make it there, or far enough to reduce the per-mile fee to something very low!

could be a worn spigot bush, when i had the wrong one in mine it would grind but would stop if clutch depressed again and tried again, took ages to figure it out! only other thing i would say is the synchros as you said. never been clued up on the full working of a gearbox.
