I'm a little bit worried about the attention to your build quality here Conrad. It looks to me like there's a little more ink on the 3rd conrod so it may be unbalanced.

Unless you weighed them all after marking them of course

Nice build. Keep us up to date!

Now I could reveal the head specification but I'm not going to, sorry no pictures of the combustion chambers, squish or valves in situ but you can see the Tomei buckets.

However, I will say that a head of this specification "HAS" run a 7 second quarter mile in a drag GTR Additionally, a slightly lesser spec one ran an 8.7 in a 240z

You get my drift..... lol

Anyway, time to fit it before someones sees the underside....

Sorry Conrad, just a very slight adjustment to your wording.

A head of a very 'similar' specification (not sure what cams were in it at the time) has run a 7 second 1/4 in a drag GTR and an identicle spec head is used on our 1100hp 8.7 second street 240z.

Sorry, I just wanted to make sure everything was 100% fact

Rob

Heres another picture of the head showing the ported inlets, its just a little insight into the quality of the porting work.

Forgive me my engineering ignorance: But can the Rods not be made of carbon?

Well.. funny you should say that.. (Carbon Rods). I think it was played with in F1 before they got banned form using extravagant materials in the engines. I had actually toyed with trying to do a set for an engine as an experiment. I work in a company that make carbon parts for F1 cars strangely enough!! and we make parts for a couple of the engine suppliers!Maybe I will have a go one day. Just the cost of the tooling alone would be pretty high and the engineering of it would be pretty trick! Just material costs alone to make them would be a few hundred quid. let alone the labour cost and final machining. Also I am not 100% sure about the effect of oil on the resin and fibres.. could be it degrades the carbon over time resulting in failure. They would be best made using some kind of resin transfer process for repeatablity but hey that's another story! if someone would like to give me £10000 to prototype some I might give it a go!
Loving the build thread by the way. Haven't read all of it yet. but as I am planning an RB30 build myself it is good reading!
