Engine Overheating....help!
Hey Guys.... ive searched but cant find much
I have a R32 GTR and am having problems with the car overheating if im ideling or at highway speed and off boost the car overheats. As soon as I get on boost though the car cools down. I've also noticed that if I dot go on boost I have no hot air but as soon as I get on boost I get hot air.... I've tried to bleed the cooling system and the problem remains (Im not a mechanic so there could still be air bubbles but I followed the FSM's instructions. Im starting to thing this problem is related to my water pump....which was replaced not to long ago. |

i have seen when the water pumps have been replaced the silicone that is on the inside of the pump Block side comes off and cause a few problems normally to water feeds to the turbos but this sounds possibly a head gasket problem ...smell the water in the rad (smell like exhaust gas)and check the oil for water check plugs for dis-colouring ... get it to a tuner for a look. Hope this helps

Three questions, that are not meant to sound insulting, but bear with me.
1/ Are you absolutely sure it really is overheating, and not just the temperature gauge that is sometimes indicating too hot. 2/ It could be that the engine is producing too much heat output. Check ignition timing, check for lean mixtures, check for blown head gasket or cylinder head cracks. I have even seen jammed solid pistons in brake calipers cause engine overheating ! So keep an open mind. 3/ It could be the cooling system is not working at full efficiency. Check the thermostat is opening, check for radiator blockages (both air and water). Check the fan and water pump, and look for drive belt slippage. There can even be weird unexpected problems with radiator hoses blocking flow due to a rubber "flapper", or internal delamination of the hose. As you probably gather, I have had some bastard overheating problems myself over the years. It takes rather a lot to surprise me, but still see some pretty obscure overheating causes occasionally. Just go through absolutely everything, and don't just assume it is the cooling system. There may be more than one problem. |
