if i stab in the dark it's 0.020/0.039mm clearance so the plastigauge is should use is 0.018/0.045mm??? like ebay item 310071473399

the 18 to 45 would be fine clearance on the mains is 0.028/0.046 and rods is grade 1 0.020/0.040

hope this helps

id never use plastigauge to measure clearances - unless it was grannys 1.4l festiva

seriously, buy a decent set of micrometers or let someone else do it

or do what my builder did and use both micrometers and plastigage.

He used 0.038mm clearances on both crank and rods, and went to great lengths to fit the bearings to those exact clearances.

If you mic it, you don't need to plastigauge it. Plastigauge is way inaccurate compared to micrometer measurements.

Not many people have internal micrometer to do that job, I have, but would norm use plastic on shell bearings, would use mic on the shafts.

dial bore guage and micrometer is the only way to measure it accurately

I am in luck i have about 5 dif sets I can use from work, (As long as I bring them back :-) but it is complicated and easy to make a hash of it. I have to change range fittings for the internal stuff, and mic the internal guage with the external one as a calibration. all our stuff is checked every 3 months , I am about to build my own engine , I will use mic as realy the plastic is only a guide but its better than nothing. RB engines are highly stressed , as somone else has said its not an uncle Festa!

I would never let precision measuring tools out of my own sight, and would probably prefer to measure myself. Drop them once, and you have to have them sent out and calibrated. Starrett mics and inside bore gauges are extremely expensive. You do not need a dial gauge to measure main or rod journals, just a set of mics.
