semi-slick/full slick tires
Just came across the Yokohama A050 - is this an evolution of the A048? Any reviews? I'm not pulling much off of Google.
I've decided to run extreme tires - I'd like to use Kumho Ecsta V710 but oddly, they are NOT available in Korea, although they're made here. So if I want a pair, I've got to nick some from the factory before they get sent overseas ![]() Any other suggestions for "barely legal" street tires? wear is not an issue - stickiness is. Also, wet performance is not much of an issue either - if it's raining that hard, I probably won't even have the car out. |

Kismetcapitan,
In Japan, the 050s are not as highly regarded as the 048s they replaced. Has something to do with the compound being used. No idea on the BFGs, but I think TireRack has some reviews. I have the 50s on my car (running the same size, albeit I'm in an R33) and they are VERY sticky tires, but you don't know HOW sticky they are unless you're on the track. I also DID have the 48s on my car previously, and I can't tell the difference on the road, although I think the 48s wore out a bit faster. On the track, it feels like the 50s are slightly more stable, but I haven't run with them enough to really tell any difference.

I really like A048 but they harden quickly IMHO which is bad for traction. I also think they suck in the rain. As a track/street combo I would use Federal SS595RS which I think work well on heavy cars - they are also a lot cheaper...
I use Federals as rain tyres for track and proper slicks (Dunlops) for dry track ![]() |
