what's a sift lock adapter?

What's a "sift lock adapter"? It looks like this;

I found it under the dash with the wires all taped up.
It wasn't connected but you could see where it would have plugged into the loom.

Anyone know what it does?

Is it not for holding the autobox in gear, shift changes then being commanded by a button press rather that autoselection

Ahhhh

I guessed that "sift" might be a mis-spelling of "shift". So that makes sense.

That sounds like fun, would it work on up and down shift? Has anyone got something like this on their car?

There aren't many wires so I might give a whirl, I spose I'd have to hook a button upto the "spare" wires...

Cheers
