Imported GT-R

before placing my order for a gt-r i've been thinking about getting one shipped
over from japan because i dont want to wait

does anyone know the costs involved, including the gt-r itself over there? ...

can the sat-nav be changed from jap to english etc...?

also is the gt-r available for a test drive at the high performance centres?

any comments/suggestions are welcome!

you gotta b careful the costs could be alot higher than if you was to get it from over here. also the warranty, if you get it from overseas, would you be covered by nissan uk? i know of afew good dealers that i have been dealing with for over 8 years now and i am sure there are many people on here that know some other however its a new car and once you get it, you gotta spend money especially on sva (not sure if the car would need esva), need to find out if there is a model report? does the gtr need one? etc etc..before you do anything, find a good dealer who knows what they are doing..

Here's about what you will look at:
1) Original japanese FOB price (car price + export cleared to the japanese yeard)
2) Container shipping costs + insurance
3) Destination harbour clearance by the shipper
4) Exporter service fees
5) EU import Tax
6) Every thing else in your country from car Tax to registration.

this will costs you about : (taking the cheapest R35 I have seen in japan):
7.250.000Yen+
60.000Yen+
450.000Yen+
-----------------
7.760.000Yen/0,004886 (JPY/GBP)=about 38000GBP

38000X10%=3800GBP
41800X 27% =11300GBP

Will make you with futher registration fees around 55000GBP.

I think for thoses who money is not an issue , this a very cheap car, even imported and warranty is not an issue if you treat it well. But for thoses 55K is a lot of money it is stupid to import the car from japan and loose all the warranty and services . . .

Japan Import

Hi - my first post on this forum

I'll be in Tokyo in 2 weeks - am going to check out some of the second hand cars....initially I was planning to buy an import in but as the numbers show, it doesn't appear worth it...so, just popped down to my GTR dealer in London and placed an order....Sept 2010 seems a long time away.

Rgds

The main issue with importing is not any cost savings.

It's the question of whether getting a car between 1-2 years early is worth the risk of something major happening to a very technically advanced car and not having a manufacturer's warranty as a safety net.

Sure it can be "serviced" by third parties (and even possibly HPCs soon if Nissan GB allow them to) but there have been some gearbox issues with the cars used at Silverstone for instance. How much will that cost to replace/repair if something goes wrong?

You pays your money and you takes your chances.......

I'd planned my Tokyo trip next week to actually start the process on importing one but having read the pros and cons on this great forum, I decided to place my deposit with Mill Hill Nissan last weekend....although, I will try and obtain as much blurb as I can from the nearest Nissan dealer in Tokyo and try and see some second hand cars.

Regards
