Urgent help - N1

Hey Guys,

Needs ome urgent help. I'm looking at buysing a 1992 R32 GTR N1. I've checked the chassis number and it is coming back as an N1 car, however have just inspected underneath and the casting on the block is 05U as opposed to 24U which apprantly shows it's an N1 block.

Now the problem is, that I've also checked the engine number and it matches whats on the build plate, which would suggest the engine hasn't been changed. Is this possible? Is it 100% definite that all N1 blocks were stamped with 24U?

Cheers
Bobby

Are you looking at the compliance plate or the Nissan tag?

Hey mate, the Nissan tag.

The car was inspected today by a long time mechanic who says in his view, the mounts show that there is no way the engine has been swapped. It's all original.

But again, the casting number is 05U not 24U

The actual engine number on the block which was confirmed to match the Nissan plate is 029655A.

Can this be checked anywhere to show if it matches what the chassis left the factory with? The chassis has 100% come back as an N1 through Nissan fast. Code is KBNR......ZN...

That's what I'm thinking and hoping as all indicators point to the engine being original.

Sure am hoping so. The car is 100% stock, log booked from japan with only 52000km's. There is not a mark on it and looks like it's been sitting in a collection somewhere, so am quite keen on it. Extra keen as it's an N1.

I wouldn't be worrying so much about the log book, I'd be looking at the overall condition. It wouldn't be the first Line to be wound back...just saying

Is it
Rear window wiper delete
Stereo and dash controls delete
A/C delete
ABS delete
Steel wheel turbos?

If the K's are legit it's a good buy. Don't mod it though. It may actually increase in value. Which would be a change for a 32R lol

The overall condition is stunning, basically not a mark on it. It's been all inspected and the only fault found was that the discs need machining and it has "a couple" of paint chips.

As for the rest -

No wiper
No ABS
has A/c and aftermarket stereo. From what i know these could have been optioned on N1's if the owner requested it. From all accounts the car has never seen a track, and seems more like it has sat in a showroom more than been driven. The logs show regular servicing to present date which is why i believe their genuine.

Original exhaust, original suspension etc etc. No evidence of any body repairs, paint depth equal on all panels.
As said, Chassis has been checked through Fast as i definitely N1.
Either way it's a stunning example of an R32, so i may just go with it.

Some pics.

Can't comment on the block number though

I would say all N1 engine should be 24U block.
I would check turbos and piston top to make sure.

Thanks Guys,

I've weighed up all the opinions and have bought the car. N1 aside, it is in remarkable condition.
It is definately an N1 chassis, and the engine number stamped on the block matches the Nissan build plate.

2 more days to pick up :-)

are you looking on the block for the 24u?

or on the head. as n1 motors have 05u on the head and 24u on the block..

tho it does sound like you know what your looking for.

I had it checked from underneath near the passenger side engine mount, which is where i think the 24U casting should have been.

The hard bit is that the whole casting thing so far has been peoples opinion, where as the VIN is definately an N1 and the engine matches the Nissan build.
I've come to the conclusion that with all numbers matching and service history of the car all ok, that there isn't any logical reason to stick an normal engine in an N1 chassis.
It makes sence in my mined :-)

Either way I have an immaculate R32 GTR which is what i set out to get, in complete stock form, again something i was after.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll never "have to" pull then engine apart and finally confirm it :-)

It certainly looks the N1 from inside and out.

Whats with the alloys? Are those R33?

Thanks guys,

Global auto, yep no numbers. Woo hoo.
P3RV3RT - Yep R33 GTR wheels. The front brakes have been changed to Brembos, so the standard wheels don't fit.

Cheers
