How do they work out these medal tables? In all fairness Russia should be above us, it's asif they don't count silvers and bronze as a medal

Yea but we only have 3 more golds than Russia but they have something like 4 more silvers and 8 more bronzes

surely 4 silver and 8 bronze are worth more than 3 gold in terms of 'points'?

Think it's all about winning though ,few days later no one remembers who came second.

I understand what you and Howsie are saying, but to just disregard silver and bronze is not exactly a good example...

On the BBC website, America are on top as they have the greater medal haul. China have won more golds.
If "Phelps" was a country, he would be 11th

^He was 5th at one point (as a country).

The table goes on golds. Silvers only come into play if 2 countries are even on golds.

BBC SPORT | Olympics | Medals table | Olympics

If I could be arsed I'd work out what each is worth from here. You can see from the table that it is sorted but the 'gold' column otherwise Russia would be above us.

Blast, which table was I looking at ....

Anyhow, lets just hope, with the fantastic performances Team GB are producing, some more investment is made so we can build on this rather than use it as conversation fodder for the next 100 years.

200 meter final.

Usain Bolt smashes the World Record with a 19.3s run.
Not the greatest but has re-written the record books.

Bloody Marvellous!

That's what I head here BBC SPORT | Olympics | Athletics | Bolt claims 200m gold with record. Appalling use of the English language if you ask me. I read "and smash Michael Johnson's mark of 19.32" but he only beat it by 0.02 of a second. Beat? Yes. Smash? No.
