Smile Best tyre size??

Hi guys im purchasing some Nismo LMGT4s 18 x 9.5j +12 offset, was thinking of putting some 275s x 35 or 30 s on,would this be the best size to use? I heard 285s rub on full lock, dont want no rubbing but want maximum performance/grip possible. Lets have some advice cheers,Daz.

good morning daz.
nice choice on tyres.

i have enkeis rpf1 on 18 x 9.5. i also have 265/35/18 tyres. currently i have bridgestone potenzas t's02 but i will be fitting some dunlop direzzas or something when these die.

regarding the oversteer.
i have tons of that. on the road and on the track. i have ohlins coilovers, cusco arms and stillway rods and bars. i also have hicas cancel bars (cusco drag rods) and i do have problems with oversteer that doesnt let me hit the times i want on track.

my advices are, fitting a hicas cancel kit that will stop your rear wobbly feeling sometimes. and then if it persists, do what i did. install a skylab torque splitter controller. its not like the hks ets, as this one will turn your car to full 4wd permanently and with consistent front torque. i heard that these are mostly used on drags. the skylab will distribute the front torque in a turn as it would normally do in a straight line. i havent fitted mine yet as it did not arrive yet. hopefully it will cure my desease.

hope this helps mate.

Look like you are modding the same as me then

I don't get the car's back end twitching really on acceleration, only my passenger's...

It does tramline with the wide tyres, which can affect straight line acceleration, but apart from emergency starts it's pretty straight.

Fitting UK clocks rather than the dodgy mph converter I had really seemed to make the handling more 'solid'. If the UK clocks hadn't come up I would've soldered the speedo.

no worries daz.

glad i could help.

i was not bragging about my mods or anything. they are very humble next to a proper track car.

as i said, i used to have lots of oversteer. to give you an idea, check this vid from my first track day. all the opposite lock was not caused on purpose. it was the car sliding on its own. my times therefore were crap.

it was my first time on track and my first time on the gt-r and my first time on a RHD car TBH.

YouTube - Evo VIII & Skyline @ Trackday Estoril 06/08

hope this gets settled with the skylabs tsc

Wink

Know you werent bragging mate, nice to have the info.Good choice of music on vid by the way From some info ive gathered and advice recieved as regards tyre size,i take it 265s x 35s are the optimum size cause wider wheels put too much stress on bearings, steering etc,am i correct ????

it might. i dont really know.

if its true, it makes sense. too much drag.

but i must say that on 265 35 i do get a lot of rubing on full lock. my car is really low, so that doesnt help.

One of the reasons I went for 275 35 is to give a bit more tyre wall (not a lot, admittedly). Oh, and they look fatter too!

Wider tyres don't mean more grip necessarily; the contact patch could just be wider, but not as deep; the area may well be the same just the shape is changed. And you may get more aquaplaning etc. with a wider tyre. Still looks sweet though...
