Rear Light Configuration

Sorry to start a new topic on this, but I feel this is very important......

In Autocar, 13th August edition, on Page 52, there is a picture of a french registered GT-R with a red bulb in place of the right-hand reversing light, presumably to meet the requirements of a high intensity rear light.

To put it bluntly it looks cr*p. It ruins the rear view of this very special car.

The purpose of this thread is to pass on to Nissan a "Dont do it that way" message. If you feel strongly that this is *not* what we want on our cars when delivered, please add a reply here..........

whilst i would rather have 2 reverse lights and 2 rear fogs

I would rather have the combo fog/reverse lights than:

Have nissan bugger up the body by cutting a hole in it to fit an after market light

Have the price go up by a couple of grand for creating modified lights

Have nissan not bring the car over to the EU because of no fog light

In the scheme of things its a pretty minor issue in reality

Agree ....I have an EVO 9 which has a Fog light added to the lower part of the bumper for UK cars ...it looks OK.....ish but if they did similar to the GTR NO THANKYOU

Whilst I hope they will find a decent solution I don't think it is THAT important. Also, if you don't like their solution, what would you suggest in stead???

Stand down everyone - Spoken to Nissan and they've told me there's nothing to worry about. Cant tell me any more at the moment.

Why not just go for a clear LED which emits red light. If you go for a 24 bulb cluster it is quite bright. I have done this mod to my GTST. You can't tell until you either engage reverse where only the left hand light comes on or you switch your rear fog on. Up until that point the rear of the car looks 'symmetrical'.

I have it on very good authority that the rear fog on UK spec GTRs will be a single lamp mounted behind the mesh of the rear diffuser.

Is that a hint at what Nissan told you?

Did anybody get a photo of this arrangement?

I do like the sound of Spearmint's suggestion.

The issue is clearly doing the simplest solution at the most sensible price. Redesigning rear lights with the production costs just for one market is rather unnecessary if the simple solution is a well hidden lamp.

I'm sure the "aftermarketeers" will have an LED solution at some point.

That option was mentioned by some customers and a Nissan guy @ SIMs of Oxford at the recent Open Night all of which said that option has been ditched and they are going to put the Fog Light in the cluster

I hope that is so

LOL!

More conflicting info from the guys "in the know"!!

It certainly seems that the solution has yet to be determined.

Personally I hope the rear light clusters' symmetry isnt affected, whatever solution they settle on.

Me too! I really dont know anything for certain but would like two reversing lights or, if only one, then one on the drivers side...... But that is where they put the HIR on the Z.......

I know its difficult to meet the needs of all the markets but I feel, given the huge interest in the HP Nissan's that the UK models come off worse after meeting the predominantly LHD Euro-specs, and thats especially sad give the vehicle has RHD origins........

We'll just have to hope Nissan EU/GB is watching out for us. It would be a shame if the final details of this top of the range, world-beating car were spoilt by minor details..... So thats why I brought it up - before the first cars get built in November......

If they do ball up the cluster i'll be ordering a JDM or US one in and having it fitted before i collect her, I did this on the Z and put in a white LED cluster that shine red for the fog and looks a lot better!

Nissan GB don't go messing with her, it was bad enough having one red and one white light on my 34!!!, and don't go cutting any extra holes!!!
