OLYMPIC RANT - WOMENS MARATHON

I have just watched the finish of the womens marathon

A british girt Yamamuchi finished 6th . This was the best finish in an olympic marathon by a british women EVER.

This included all of Paula Radcliffes results. She came 22nd - due to a range of explainable problems (again)

So we come to the after race chat with both of them by the BBC.

Yamamuchi gets a short chat and then its as good as a full interveiw of paula radcliffe sobbing giving excuse after excuse and Yamamuchi is made to stand there and listen to all of this.

The commentator is clearly more impressed with her 22nd place than the best finish of all time by any British women .

I always thought 6th was better than 22nd but apparentkly not.

True; it fills countless back pages of tabloids every time there's an international football game

She thinks she will be in London 2012......FFS! She'd be 38!!!

Can't win now, WON'T win then!

Well done Yamamuchi......2012 could be your time to shine.

We are now 3rd in the medals tables. It is quite incredible, I never would have thought we would get this high, congratulations to all the athletes competing.

Slight aside here......
Years ago the Olympics were a purely amateur affair, and that principal was strongly upheld.
That is obviously not the case anymore, so when did it change ?
(not a rant, but I'm genuinely curious)

Not according to the BBC, in terms of the congratulations that is ..... yesterday purely by chance I caught a small bit of a report from the Olympics about GB being 3rd in the medal table and the commentator/reporter actualy stated, live on the telly, that we had so many golds now that bronzes don't matter anymore ..... well I'm sure they do to those you won them. I was stunned by this coment

Missed the women's marathon. Dangggg.... Women's hockey was pretty exciting though. I was wondering if my heart would be rooting for the J women or the UK women, and guess what?

PS What kind of name is Yamamuchi, and does Paula still draw triangles with her head?

They obviously mentioned Paula more because obviously she is like the mostest important marathon runner since like, ever. Didn't you know that?
