AP Racing Floating Disks

I've recently purchased an R34 thats got a Floating AP Racing Disk setup.

It sounds really loud when pottering round town, does anybody know what bits I would have to change to change it back to a non-floating setup?

Thanks,

Ally

If you keep the calipers on then I would say just new discs and bells

You mad impetuious fool, you .....

The noise when pottering around town could be down to the hard brake pads ?

If you are not intending driving hard on track, the brakes are fine with a road going pad, however mine were worse than useless when used on track, regardless of the hardness of the pads.

I tried all sorts, but the casting of the disks is not up to the job when combined with half decent track day use.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but that's my own experience of them

LOL yeah I wonder how many people have sold their skyline then just HAD to have another one

The car has recently had new DS2500 pads, the noise is loud enough to be heard in-car, even over the HKS Hiper exhaust...yes that loud!!!

Don't plan to do any track-days.....well maybe the Nurburgring next year...So would prefer to get rid of the floating discs..as long as I can keep the calipers.

Thanks for the replies.

Floating discs have some anti-rattle spring mechanism to make 'em quieter, maybe they need cleaning/adjusting?

Performance Friction do direct replacement bells and discs and are definitely worth a look if you're set on swapping.

Stoptech do a good spring fastner for the floating hat and rotor. They use washers where the center has been pressed out which keeps the hat and rotor tight when cold. When they get hot the washer flatens out.
