Hyundai chases Lexus and gets close.
Very interesting read and the car looks great if it wouldn't be for the Hyundai badge . . . .

the Genesis probably sells for cheap overseas but they're over $60K in Korea. So if you're wondering how Hyundai can put together a great luxury sedan for so cheap...they can't. Just like highly featured and inexpensive Korean cellphones, or how Kumho Ecsta tires cost half of what Yokohamas do....they aren't actually that cheap. These products are getting dumped overseas, and Korean domestic buyers subsidize the low cost. So now you know how Hyundai can build a car in Korea, ship it to the United States, and have it retail for $37,000 for the V8 version, because the same car trucked into Seoul from the factory costs fooking $68,000.
It is literally cheaper for me to buy a set of Kumho Ecsta MX tires in Indiana, have them shipped BACK to Korea where the goddam things are made, than to go down to the local tire shop here in Seoul and buy them there. Anyways, there's a 300hp coupe version coming out as well. Finally, a RWD Korean tuning platform...but then, there're so many good Japanese cars to build for far cheaper ![]() But I expect one of the Korean tuning houses to put together a monster Genesis coupe. We'll see how it fares out on the streets ![]() Last edited by kismetcapitan; 19th August 2008 at 03:21 PM. |
