I thought I heard somewhere that the T04Z worked best with a 2.8, rather than the lacklustre 2.6
But then what do I know .... (Except that's what I've got !) Matty speak to Bob at GBH, he did mine

we use the hks 2.8 kit and to4z - works very well , when that engine was in our blue DCY r32 car - we managed a 10 sec flat quarter mile 1350kg car
we will run a very similar set up in the new pro time attack car they give good spool with the right suppoting mods . good choice and good for 750hp - even 800hp |

What cams do you have? I am contemplating turbos now, my engine is all steel, still at 2.6 as i don't want to bore more than 86.5 for both bore stability and having another bite out of this brand new N1 block when it needs a rebore. I am on 280 degree cams, with 10.8 lift. Prefer to stay with stock manifolds and twins, but might be persuaded to use a single on the HKS cast manifolds I have stashed.

Matt, if all you want is 600bhp (fwhp?), then you should go GTss/2530 or similar. Just from reading on here, it'd be far cheaper on the plumbing side and not sure the the T04Z is ideal on a 2.6.

Matty,
T04z is not ideal for a 2.6........ It can run it.....but you'd be best off with a load of head work to flow that turbo nicely......otherwise compared to how the car drives now it will be laggy as hell.....bearing in mind your on standard turbos that probably spool at 2000rpm!.......On a 2.6 the T04z will come alive at 4500-5000rpm. i had ideally thought 2530s etc, i think that may be the route...
lamb - know what you mean it would have to be a 2.8 and bore out with the to4z, thats why i was interested in if anyone had run one on a 2.6.600bhp - i would rather know that the engine is rebuild though with new parts if im going tobe putting turbos on ![]()

I think I understand what you want.
You probably like the sound of TO4Z and want "gate" sound but don't want to go too much to engine work. What I know about Tomei is that their best RB bottom is not their RB28 kit and it's their RB26. I think the price difference should tell you why. I think I've only bought very few GT-R with Tomei 2.8 yet so guess this is only popular oversea??? But if you really want to keep 2.6, you can think about changing final gears to 4.111 or if you like to go rare go for Nismo 3.9. Or, leave 2.6L , V-cam Pro, and TO4Z + "good mapping" shouldn't be that bad car. |

The stock T04Z kit for the RB I believe is designed for the 2.6 engine. The Exhaust housing is too small for the RB28 in my opinion. I think the stock T04Z kit would be absolutely ideal for a 2.6.
For the RB28 you really want a 1.00 a/r. IIRC! I'm not sure about 750-800bhp. I think you'd get 700 happily with the larger compressor on a 2.8. I'd say 750-800 is T51 territory. On a 2.6 I doubt you'd see too much over 600, 650 max. Cheers Nito

Ive read this post several times & dnt want to get into any arguments with anyone about who knows best as it seems to turn out that way more than often, but i have to disagree with most of the coments above & agree with Nito & Global... The out of the box HKS T04Z setup (0.86 housing) is really good on a 2.6 engine & this is what it was orignaly designed for (single turbo, 2.6 motor) bearing in mind it does need the rite supporting mods, head work, compression ratio, cam choise etc etc to make it work to its full potental...
I will get some dyno graphs/print outs of T04Z on 2.6 motors for you guys to campare in the next few days as my car's nearly ready to go & a friends has just been finished off (630whp on 97ron @1.6bar) with very simalr spec's but different gearing etc (as above it does make abig difference)...
