if i remember correctly what simon from nissan europe said to me at goodwood.....once a customer pre-orders a car with a dealer, the dealer has then placed a firm order on the car....i.e. if the customer doesn't pay up for the car then the car is still delivered to the dealer and it is then up to them what they do with it...(although, of course, they would have to pay nissan for the car). I'm sure the dealers listed above would be honourable enough not to try to make a fast buck in this way but actually legally there would be nothing stopping them from doing it

I don't think that applies this early in the ordering proccess. The EU-cars is some time away from actuall assembly.

It seems plausible if the car has already been manufactured in Japan and is on its way to the UK dealer. But now? I say it's too early for that.
But I don't know how Nissan works. There are numerous dealers in this thread though which doesn't agree with whats happening.

NMGB won't allow us to register a car in a different name to the original orderer. Basically, the company named above will not be able to do what they profess to do. If the name changes, NMGB won't be happy.

How on earth can they offer every colour and every spec - that's 18 different combinations!

There is something seriously dodgy going on.

I can confirm what Davros says. I tried to get the name on my order changed (just my first name). After various requests through Marshalls and the Concierge I eventually got to talk to a person high-up in NMGB. He told me that just changing one letter in my first name would present huge problems as I would automatically go to the back of the queue! With an April 2009 date I decided to stop being picky........

Personally I think they are gambling on anyone interested staying interested when they're told they will be the second name on the registration. If the customer walks they'll still have a car to sell on, albeit pre-registered.

I think NMGB or NMEU should track down who the dealer is and cancel the order.........

It could also be some guy collecting deposits from people and then disappear from the face of the earth.

The thing is he's saying that you would be the first registered keeper, which cannot be the case in your scenario. Once the name is changed, the car is no longer in the control of the dealer, it goes back to NMGB.

Could well be someone that's going to do a runner with the deposits. Or perhaps just take several deposits and keep the interest when they realise the names cannot be changed. Or just tell the buyer, "opps, you're actually going to be the 2nd registered owner", which at that time probably won't be such a big deal for the person that's been waiting a year for delivery.

GT-R Order

Hi... I'm new here (well I registered back in April) and I had decided to order a GT-R in April but the oil price shock and a simultaneous slump in my IT contract rate meant I decided to bin the idea for a while - if not for good. I am a rabid Golf GTI fanatic and currently have a Mk5 Edition 30 (Anniversary Edition of the GTI) and a mint Mk1 GTI. I have owned about 25 cars in the past five years - all Golf GTI/VR6/R32s bar my first car - a Nissan Micra 1.0L - and a Subaru Impreza STI. I'm normally found in the Mk5 section of golfgti.co.uk .

I've always been aware of the Nissan Skyline heritage and thought of it as a more serious and grown up cousin of the rice racers - Mitsi Evo and Subaru WRX/STIs. However, there has always been something about the VW brand and the GTI in particular that I love, so I wouldn't have considered another car... that is until the GT-R reviews hit the press. I've been in two minds about ordering a GT-R because of the state of the economy etc... but since there is almost a 2 year wait for the car, its a blessing in disguise for me because I can save up for it. I'll put my order in within a couple of weeks after I make sure that Nissan cannot surprise me with a delivery next year or something like that. And I'll be visiting this forum a lot more when that deposit goes through.

Welcome mate!

I'm in the same boat - happy to have the next 18+ months to save up the cash! You never know, by then the market might have recovered somewhat and petrol might be cheaper (wishful thinking!).

Proabably is wishful thinking... but I'm banking on climbing the career ladder and hoping it won't be as big a hit on the wallet as it would if I was in my present job a year from now. I think thats a serious dose of wishful thinking right there...

Well I have a Premium Edition in Ultimate Silver due for deliver in May 2009 and I have a nice GTR personalised reg to hang on it too.

Now I may be open to offers to sell it on with deliver mileage to a bona-fide second owner, but I won't be settleing for £1500 profit, now if you want to jump the queue and give me £15k that's another matter!!
