Talking

I don't think I'd sell even for 15k to be honest. For me this is the chance to own an iconic supercar and I can't wait. I have never lusted after Porsches and Lambo's etc. Always wanted an Escort Cosworth, 22B or R34.

My feeling is that given 10 years, owning such a car will not be so attractive with scameras, car tax and unpunished car crime on the increase. Plus I'll be an old man It will be back to crazy holidays and a medium entry sportscar like the 380Z when the GTR goes.

Bring on the GTR, I'll be taking a weeks holiday and going coast to coast

I'm not selling either. Not even after 10 years. I have a hunch it'll be a one off like my '98 Impreza which I still own...I don't expect it to be bettered by subsequent models

Totally agree

Nice to hear someone else looking forward to their car and not complaints about vdc/tyres/warranty/fixed lap times/fuel costs/servicing/delivery dates/dealerships/nissan UK/nissan in general/did I miss anything off this list.

Less than a year to go, I too will be taking time off from work and even family and doing some milegage!

I don't think any of the dealers are necessarily party to any of this. IMHO, what's really happening is:-

1. Speculators have put down deposits on GTRs at a number of dealerships. There is no way for an individual dealership to know whether anyone who places a deposit is a speculator or not. Nissan themselves are the only people who know what the total list is, and in theory should be able to cancel multiple orders in the same name. However, speculators aren't daft, so in all likelihood they will have used different names at different dealerships, so effectively NO-ONE knows who is "genuine" and who is a speculator.

2. When the cars arrive at the dealership, they will be registered in the names of the people who ordered the cars. There is no way around this for the speculator, but neither does he much care, because as soon as he drives it around the corner from the dealership he sells it on to someone who wants to jump the queue and is willing to pay a premium to do so. This has been happening with Audi R8s since they came out (though less so in the last few months with the credit crunch).

You're always going to find chancers like "Cars4numptees" saying that they can find any car in any spec AS LONG AS you give them a deposit, and promise you will be the 1st registered owner. And guess what, they will find you a car, but it may be a little bit different from the spec you wanted i.e. whatever they have ordered as speculators, or whatever they can get their hands on through other speculators. It also may be a little bit more expensive than they told you when you placed the deposit, may arrive a little later than promised, and will at the last minute have to be registered in someone else's name for " a few hours". Of course, if you don't like any of this you can pull out at any stage. And why should they be bothered if you do pull out - they'll sell the car to someone else and keep your deposit (try getting it back)! Buyer beware!

I'd understood that you can change the colour and spec of the ordered car up to within just a few months of the delivery date? - So they may be planning to do that to get the spec right, but I think you're right about the number of owners - I doubt there's much way around that.

However, I suspect that there may be a number of people who are going to struggle to complete the purchase on their deposit paid orders in the current financial climate. I'm not sure how understanding Nissan plan to be in such cases, but one assumes that these people will lose their deposits.

At least they will have had a drive at the Race Academy for their outlay.

The car is unlikely to fall £3.5k on the first day, so would be a little silly for forgo the deposit in my opinion.

The state our economy is in this second I'd say that they drop 10-20 pct driving out of the showroom. There will be plenty of cancellations. One of my colleagues threatening the Porsche dealer to cancel his 997 and leave his 3500 deposit. Dealer is shitting himself as plenty are cancelling and waiting to pick up the leftovers in couple of month with 20-30 pct discount.

It would be interesting for someone to ring up about wanting a car ,say January ,and see when they could get one .I would say the way things are next year would be very possible .

Actually Q3 2010 at the earliest - according to my dealer.

I am also told that they have only had 1 cancellation since April when the orders went in against 30 new orders since (which ignores those that were on his pre-order list).

If there are cancellations it will just bring later deliveries a little bit forward, so unless any of you get advised that your deliver is coming sooner than expected we're never likely to hear much about cancellations.

However, I do anticipate that with the current waiting list there may be plenty of 'new' ones for sale from around June onwards!
