Gear box in auto issues are not really issues afterall

I've read the US owners manual and it's answered so many questions. Like why does the gearbox suck in auto mode when on a hill, or doing this or doing that. For every issue it just says use manual instead. CLASSIC!

if it has issues like this it must be a very old crappy version of DSG as my golfs DSG works perfectly everywhere in auto.

The DSG used in the GTI is a wet clutch.

The one used in the GTR is a moist/semi dry one (less losses) with much closer stacked ratios

i don't speak Russian im afraid

i do know people bitched about the R32s DSG (golf) about hill starts and being useless in traffic on forums etc and its simply not true

It just means the two DSG gearboxes are not identical.

The one in the GTR is a newer one and designed first and foremost for performance and acceleration. These differences account for the "issues" encountered on the GTR. The trade offs are that it loses some of the smoothness and slushbox feeling of the earlier DSG used in the GTI.

Having driven 2 different GTRs yesterday IMHO I found the gearbox to be a peach. Happy crawling back from the track in Auto, and fabulously quick in Manual.

I'd never have thought I'd say it, but bye bye manual gearbox..

ok, i take all that back. nissan is full of sh1t sometimes.

driving home last night was feeling lazy so had the car in auto mode. was poodling downhill and i could see it was in 3rd. there was a break in traffic in the left lane so i pushed the accelerator to get in there and BOOM... car revved to 5rpm and the gear selector display went blank. in effect i was now in neutral and revving away. i selected manual, the display reappeared with 2m and engaged.

it was a scary moment because i thought it was going to break down. anyway, calling the HPC this morning to have them collect the car and fix the gearbox/software. my car has already had one gearbox upgrade but clearly there is another problem which they probably know about but did not issue a recall.

The joys of being a beta tester, its normally allways better to buy a car 12-18 months after its released so that they can iron out the bugs

mind you my R32 DSG golfs gear box died at rush hour in lane 3 a few weeks after i got it, after doing it a few times the dealer fitted a new ecu and flashed it with a later version of the software and its been perfect ever since

though now even newer dsg made by Borg are appearing elsewhere, bmw m3 dsg is apparently superior to that of the gtr (weight differences and shift times).

main differences are seen in downshifting, there are certain limitations on that of the gtr, whereas that of the m3 can down shift from 6-3 faster than you can blink your eye 6 times (apparently, not seen with my own batting eyes)....

i'm sure nissans dct has alot to learn, and will, as the coming years pass, it will shift faster, and anticipate more, yet maintaining its everyday driveability.

that's one of the complaints i have. the downshift is not as intelligent even as an old 355 F1. press the downshift 3 times and sometimes it's just too slow, even in R mode. i think it's the intelligent learning software causing the problem.

yea that's what i've heard too. you can click the downshift twice even, and if it's too fast, or just randomly sometimes, it will only shift once..

but as i said, nissan's dsg programme will grow and like an aging wine, will only get better with time.

Alot of the Americans seem to be experiencing this problem gents. I wonder if nissan are aware of it? If not i wonder if there is anyway we are able to notify them so they can release a software patch for the future. maybe a couple of quick emails ? lol
