Arrrggghhh! WHY???
I have an issue with my car.
When I turn the ignition on I get no lights, the pump kicks in and it starts, but no lights, rev counter, wipers, power rooves, power windows in fact no electricas whatsoever. If I rev it up a bit (like 4.5-5k, the lights on the dash come on and everything works. The dash lights are a bit flickery at this point but they are on. Anyone know what the craps goin on?? ![]() |

more likely a bad/intermittent connection somewhere - possibly on one of the printed circuits ( such as on the instrument cluster where the flickering is ) .

If everything works at 4-5K rpm but not before you have a bad or broken connection somehow somewhere.
Further thoughts The 'charging circuit' is seperate from the battery circuit - the car will run but not start with a disconnected battery and all the lights and dials will light up. The battery connection to the starter motor is also seperate from the main electrics due to the large amount of current the starter motor uses. As long as there is power to the starter motor the engine will start and the charging from the alternator will then light the lights etc. So the lack of connection would seem to be between the battery and the main loom maybe one of the main fuses . One last question - has anything happened or any parts been fitted etc just before the fault occurred ( however insignificant) A gearbox noise is not usually associated with a bad electrical connection .

Yeh, the gearbox thing was just a bit of a stab in the dark tbh!
The car has had a headunit fitted, nothing else as yet. It has been jump started a few times, due to a very dead battery. The elec fault was noticed at the same time as the gearbox so thought it may have been connected but obviously not thinking about it. I was just worried that a sensor or something may have come adrift inside the box and caused a short or something. I will got throught the fuses and then the harness to see if there are any obvious discrepencies at all. |

a lot of jap cars won't let electrical systems work with a flat battery even though the engine runs, try a new or fully charged one

Dont know if this will help, had a similar problem with my GTS-t lost all electrics but car would start but run rough and lacked power also was stuck in 3rd gear (auto). Turned out to be the main cable from the battery to the fusebox. Ran a new cable and all sorted.

I found the issue, took me 3 hrs!!
Its the main 75A fuse in the fuse box, it had gone and was not obvious due to having a very fine break in it. I put a stanley knife blade in the crack and it sorted it, all lights on. So, I need one of those fuses. Where the heck do I get one?? They are a big click in affair. |
