He needs to be keen on the brakes because he is 3 feet from every apex, his line through Adenau Forst is shocking

I was waiting for back-up before I made the same comment. The fact that he was out-doing the GT3 at times while taking those lines is incredible.

I know the owner of that car,as its the dealer where i ordered mine from.
I know the driver of the GTR,he is a friend of me,never driven a RHD Vehicle on a racetrack(or maybe anywhere else) befor.............

There is no brakeparts available yet in germany,so they have been quite soft to the brakes, there is no tyres available yet,so they have been easy to the tyres.......the suspension is a prototype of KW Suspensions, which was just installed and is @the moment a bit to low for the Nordschleife............

In the end,the 996 GT3 RS had no chance to follow the GTR,and from what i have been told from the driver of the GTR,the GT3 was pushed very hard(and broke a BBS magnesiumwheel + all the frontfender, tyres etc stuff on that day).

PS: The driver of the GTR can go much faster then 99.5% on here

Just you, Robbie and I are quicker then Alex.

FPMSL.

Why the video has been edited the way it has is beyond me.

Just to clarify my earlier statement in case it insulted anyone. Knowing that someone is doing something slightly wrong and being able to do it better are 2 separate matters. E.g. the extent of my gymnastic ability is a forward role but if an olympic gymnast lands on their face after a somersault, I know they did it wrong.

Because the Porsche driver never wanted to show the GTR pulling away, despite the fact that its driver was steering and shifting with the 'wrong' hands ref. EvoIV's post.

Deeply, Deeply impressive, even a plantpot like me could drive fast. I noticed strange sounds from the GT3 under brakes....Ceramic brakes?

I wish the GTR was not so big

Well, its personal thing, my fav road is hmm rather tight.............i know the GTR will not understeer, but i watched in horror when a BMW 3 series ran a bit wide and clip an Audi R8 coming the other way.

I know its not as big as say an Jag XK, but i feel its 5-10% too big.

Amazing car, they can be very happy with what they achived, i mean 911 sales are falling off a cliff and the GTR is not even here yet!

Personaly am delighted that Porsche has had its nose rubbed in it.........

Me too, they made the most money per car sold than any other car company by a huge margin so have of late been emptying their customers pockets to the tune of about £15k too much on 911's alone - they did this by hanging on to old tech as long as possible instead of the usual Porsche way of staying on top of the game - and where did it get them - 35% less sales so far this year lost to Audi and others and soon to be Nissan also - bl**dy accountants spoiling another great company!

Is it that?
I mean i hate to echo Clarkson, but the engine IS in the wrong place! I remember Autocar did a track day in the late 80's. They asked the Lotus Rep (John Miles) what was the best layout?

He said Front engine/rear drive but with the gearbox over the rear end..like an 944.

Nissan went one better!

One day i put my head around the door @ Middlehurst, i wonder if Andy has forgiven me yet?

hmm so the paddle controls ("for shifting") and the steering wheel direction are reversed on left hand drive GT-R's, thanks for the heads up

Interesting vid, does not show the GTR crushing the porker, does show some dodgy driving thou

997 dimensions..

Length 4427 mm - 14'6"
Width 1808 mm - 5'11" - exc. mirrors
Height 1310 mm - 4'4"
Wheel Base 2350 mm - 7'9"

GTR

Length 4655 mm - 15'3"
Width 1895 mm - 6'3" - exc. mirrors
Height 1370 mm - 4'6"
Wheel Base 2780 mm - 9'1"

taken from Cars & Car Dealers | UK Motoring Research

So the GTR is 87mm wider than a 997 so 4.3cm wider at each side..

but 22cm longer.

If you're worried about tight roads, is 9cm really such an issue? Thats less than the average change in width of a carriageway due to roadside plant growth!

Big in my mind is a Range Rover Sport...

Length 4788 mm - 15'9"
Width 1983 mm - 6'6" - exc. mirrors
Height 1812 mm - 5'11"
Wheel Base 2745 mm - 9'0"

And having driven the GTR yesterday at Silverstone I can honestly say it never actually felt big. Quite the opposite.

The only issue for some may be the length of the thing.
