US gets Christmas with NSXs

Spoon-Fed NSX: Tuner Re-Creates NSX Type R for the U.S.

Quote:
TOKYO — Japanese tuner Spoon Sports plans to convert left-hand-drive U.S.-spec NSXs into fully loaded NSX-Rs for the American market.

The Honda specialist is going the whole nine yards with the conversion. Extra goodies on the R include a retuned suspension with harder springs, stiffer shocks and thicker sway bars, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, slotted brake rotors, a remapped ECU and a shorter final-gear ratio. That means total output should come in at around 300 horsepower, which is a little bump from the stock 290 hp found on the 2005 model.

Weight will be significantly cut, thanks to forged 17-inch wheels, carbon-fiber Recaro seats, a smaller battery, manual mirrors, thinner rear glass and the removal of all sound deadening. This diet should put the curb weight at around 2,800 pounds, which is currently what the JDM-spec NSX-R weighs in at.

Edmun Laurea, the president of Opak Racing, one of Spoon's importers, says that this superior NSX is currently available for order, although the U.S. registration process is still being smoothed out. Pricing starts in the $60,000-$69,000 range plus shipping costs, and Spoon will install anything from a twin-turbo to a wide-body kit if American enthusiasts are still hungry for more.

What this means to you: Now if only we could get our hands on the Civic Type R. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent

Now will someone please do the same for theSkyline GTRs

and therein lies the problem with the NSX. No matter how good it is, it has always been underpowered.

But the Skyline GT-R was never for sale in America! So they wouldn't have a chassis to build off of.

They say it will get Twin Turbos if requested . . . 600HP@1200kg are a real shocker belive me

@JDMGTR you are right, but they should just allow the japanese used imports on US territory, any way 99% of the brave volks won't drive a car that has a steering wheel on the wrong side, so no big rival for the home used car market . . it's not OZ or the UK.

I've personally crossed the border as a passenger in a friend's GT-R and seen the american reactions to the thing. Kids point, cause they know what it is, but adults scoff at it. When I was in Boston, some man came up to my buddy and asked if the car was a kit car, because "people just don't drive on that side of the car 'round here"...

Most American's are afraid of change, which is likely why McDonald's has sold how many burgers again...? 89 billion?

The US is master of double standards.
I think they have the worst ministry of transport in the world. The ministry changes the point of views from state to state and then promotes nation wide hybrids from Ford and GM in order to counter Toyota, letting peeps with normal patrol cars look like idiots, then on the other side look at all the junk that drives on US streets, a 2000HP GTR would be the safest car in the US!

LOL for the MC Donald quote.

So Spoon expects to charge people $60,000 for something NSX owners here have been doing by themselves for YEARS?

That's a common misconception. We have some of the most stringent safety and emissions standards in the world. If you've ever wondered why we don't get things like Zondas, Gumperts, Weismanns, TVRs, etc., it's because they couldn't pass emissions, crash testing or both. An R32, R34, or R33 for example wouldn't be allowed on US streets without significant modification because it can't pass a side impact crash test and will fail emissions. We're a lot stricter than you realize.
