R32 missfire between 3-4k rpm

Recently had ECU problems, which led to non start. Found a water leak and replaced the old ECU with a 2nd hand r33 unit.

All started up fine!

BUT!

Now the car miss's between 3-4k then clears and pull hard, as it did before. Idles fine, drives fine before 3k then coughs and splutters thru to 4k then takes off again. Quickly checked for boost leeks but have not touched anything along the intake lines.

Any help will do

is the R33 unit a stock unit? are you sure it's not an aftermarket unit that may have been tuned?
