Cant see the point of threads like this !!
Porsche owners (of new cars remember) arent really comparing their car purchase to a Nissan are they ?? That may sound snobby but its just simply how life is. I'd rather have a GTR for value or a secondhand Porsche, but thats not a fair comparison either as the values of each drop in different ways for different reasons here in the UK. So no real comparison other than perhaps a laptime can be made, and even then the cars a different enough not to need comparing. J. |

Bladerider is right on this.
Most of all the difference between the Porsche community and Import scene com. is very big. Basicly do to real world circumstances , japanese cars are only popular since about 30years, the Porsche community and other european car enthusiats have more then 80years of car club activities on the back. The GTROC is a shing star in the import scene, but this will not attract all Porsche owners in europe to now switch their car life style (Porsche ) to a GTR life style . . . . I understand the Porsche fascination and I really think most of them are missing a big experience, if not once being interested in Skyline GTRs and maybe even GTR club activities . . . Also I doupt that Porsche is realy affraid of the GTR and that they can't build a better car then the GTR. . . basicly they not need and not can! Porsche cars are basicly allways the same since 30years . . . which has to do with heritage and customer feedbacks. If tomorrow a Porsche would be more sofisticated then the new GTR, would it still be a true Porsche? Porsche owners like the thrill when the back end comes, don't they?.![]() |

And you can take your connoisseuring over to the other site, shorty !!!
Sean, I think EricGTR was being ironic if you re-read the rest of his post !! I dare say that threads such as "Does Lamborghini need to rethink the Murcielago because the GT2 is quicker" are a bit pointless, as is "Pagani in a panic over LP640" Theres a natural level to all these things and the people who can genuinely afford to contemplate those levels probably dont use the same criteria as we do !! I dont look at a E30 M3 or an RSCosworth in those ways either, its simply a case of which one I would fancy when I decide its time to buy !! J. |

I think the GTR is going to mostly impact second hand porkies, causing greater depreciation for Porsche owners. I really don't think it's going to hurt Porsche's bottom line in the near future, although they are certainly going to have to up their game.
The GTR will probably hurt the lower-end Porsche models more than the 911/Turbo/GT2,3 range. Potential buyers considering a Cayman for example would be mad to ignore the GTR... |

the porsche has many other attributes to rate it over the datsun exclusivity badge finish quality skill required to drive it properly (easy mode will put of some drivers from the GTR) brand loyalty / fanism |

i guess its also about personal taste (or lack of)
I know the Gallardo LP 560-4 is lighter faster and alot cheaper than the LP640 but if i had the money I would allways get the LP640 since to me its sex on a stick and the Gallardo looks bloody awefull imo |

But then it needs to in order to justify that extra expense at initial purchase for people like us. Its not simply a case of saying "Which ones quickest" otherwise we'd all be driving around in Radicals. Alot of people who do spend that sort of money though are more interested in the other things and badge is certainly near the top of their list !! Theres a lot more Porsche/Ferrari/Lambos sold to brokers and the like who dont know, dont care or wouldnt know what to do with extra performance than there are sold to enthusiasts. And these people will buy the new GTR as a fashion item way before the fact its a faster car round the Nurburgring. The only benefit the 'ring time has is of making the press go into a frenzy and hence give the new GTR the kudos to make it more desirable to those rich types in the first place. J. |
