while waiting for my coffee this morning, I flipped through a car magazine - something I did religiously in my youth, but rarely if ever look at now. There are some mighty interesting and pretty cars coming out, or already released, but when I get to the stats, I'm aghast. 300hp? That's weaksauce. I was quite taken in by the styling of the upcoming Scirroco...but for $45K....that much money to be slow? 7 second 0-60 "sprints"??

Having spent so much time with high-powered JDM cars and the objectively ridiculous power potentials of these engines, anything less than utter supercar just doesn't seem to cut it. A BMW M5 is a nice 500bhp saloon, costs you $100K+....or take an Altezza for $10K, build a $30K 2JZ engine and you've got a fairly bulletproof EIGHT HUNDRED bhp saloon. Modern farkles like navigation, dvd, etc...all can easily be bought aftermarket. The other stuff - stability control and semi-auto trannys, well that's for pussies and muppets who can't drive anyways

The money just doesn't add up to buy a prêt-a-conduire European luxury car. Nor is it nearly as fun...but that's beside the point. I feel so jaded by showroom stock cars, no matter what price. I don't think I could ever go back to driving non-modified cars; I feel I'm forever stuck with tuning JDM cars - nothing else seems worth it.

And yes, I'm seriously questioning the Mercedes B200 I've got on order. I could save a bundle with a 1st generation Lexus IS or GS. And have you any idea what the dealer wants for 18" AMG rims???? Give me some Rays at a tenth of the price!

I sadly have to say I agree completly, modern cars just just don't seem to have it for me either. getting a JDM base car and speccing it up your own way is the only solution I am affraid...

Or go and win the lottery and buy a F1 GTR or another "supercar"

have been thinking the same for a long time, never understood when my mates bought new cars when you can find a really good spec slightly older car and spec it mentally for the same price!
