It think it'll depend on your MOT tester. Your car should have a cat, so you may fail automatically because of that. My last MOT, the CAT was on but falling to bits inside, and the tester got it through on the 'no cat' emissions test... Some of them are happy if you just have a cat in the boot... ![]() |

your car CAN pass without a cat aslong as it still passes the same test.
what is not allowed is fitting a cat to get through the test then removing it again afterwards, which would only really come to light if you get a roadside emisions test. to sum up, any car does not need a cat aslong as it still passes the emisions. |

All cars after 1992 had to have a Cat fitted and as such the emission regulations are only passable if you have one fitted. However, as already stated you may find a more reasonable mot tester who would turn a blind eye. |

to clear it up a bit 92 cars on are reqiured to be fitted with a cat from factory BUT it does not a cat to pass the emmisions as i know of a mercedes that was decatted and still flew through the cat test due to how efficient the car was.
as long as the car passes the emmisions for the type and year then no cat is required for the mot test. ps being an mot tester helps in knowing how the mots work lol |
