Money laundering regs are a bit of a nightmare - you need to produce lots of ID etc when paying any large sums of cash. Much better to pay it in to your bank account and pay on a debit card.

My post intended to point out that the OP's dad is paying for the deposit in cash.
Any grown man who is buying his son a £55k car should understand the implications of paying for anything with that much cash...... Anyway, google is your friend... HMRC states that cash values of 15,000 euros and above require special attention from registered "High Value Dealers" (govnt speak for any company selling high value goods). So in a nutshell, £3.5k is fine. |

Nissan didnt allow payment by credit card as the deposit which they would get then would be (very marginally) less than the required 5000 Euro.

But seriously, i havn't seen that much cash in years in a car dealership. It's very rare we even see bankers drafts now. Debit cards are the way forward, until ID cards with credits on (a la total recall!) are about. |
