I don't see why not. Personally, I'd rather use the credit card and get my 1% cashback, but that's your preference...

Somewhat daft question.

Why also would you risk walking around with £3500 in cash?? Ever heard of BACS?

possibly not. ask the garage. new money laundering laws exist now. & You couldn't buy the whole car with cash unless you had a note from the bank saying it was legit......!

Money laundering regs are a bit of a nightmare - you need to produce lots of ID etc when paying any large sums of cash. Much better to pay it in to your bank account and pay on a debit card.

My post intended to point out that the OP's dad is paying for the deposit in cash.

Any grown man who is buying his son a £55k car should understand the implications of paying for anything with that much cash......

Anyway, google is your friend...

HMRC states that cash values of 15,000 euros and above require special attention from registered "High Value Dealers" (govnt speak for any company selling high value goods).

So in a nutshell, £3.5k is fine.

3.5k is fine you shouldnt have any problems what so ever

however you should pay for it on credit card

always better to do a large purchase or deposit on card you have protection

Nissan didnt allow payment by credit card as the deposit which they would get then would be (very marginally) less than the required 5000 Euro.

money laundering states that no more than £7,500 can be taken at any one time, therefore you could pay seperate £7,500's and make your way up to the £55,00 whatever mark. Stupid but doable.

We'll take £3500 cash. Especially as we're nearer to you than St Helens! As is Davros in Cambridge too!!

(Really sorry, couldn't resist the plug! for me)

C'mon Show mw the money.....show me the money!! lol

But seriously, i havn't seen that much cash in years in a car dealership. It's very rare we even see bankers drafts now. Debit cards are the way forward, until ID cards with credits on (a la total recall!) are about.

I usually pay for the whole car with debit card on day of pickup - much easier.
Once had a guy buy my 330sport convertible for £32k cash - all in a tesco carrier bag!

Actually, that is not true. As someone that has been FSA regulated, multiple payments that sum to around 10,000 or above may well be highlighted as suspicious.
