apologies to the OP... just kinda got used to the porsche boys hopping on here occasionally...

i guess the surprise was due to the process you guys have to go thru vs what i did in japan. obviously when i bought my car it was already launched here so walked in, went thru the different models, sat in a few then made my purchase immediately and put the mandatory 10% down.

Oh my god, the question that haunted me for months - what do you get for your extra £1300? The answer is very simple - some bits in different colours.

jagseven has got it spot on - the Premium and Black Editions are physically identical, there are absolutely no differences in material or spec, and that includes the tyres. To summarise:

Premium Edition: Silver Wheels, Black or Grey Seats, Grey Headlining
Black Edition: Smoke Wheels, Black Seats With Red Stripes, Black Headlining

When the specs were first announced I read through them again and again and had exactly the same reaction as jagseven - "£1300 for nothing extra - that can't be right". I wrote to Nissan countless times to clarify the situation and all they did was repeatedly send me a copy of the vague spec from the website. They wouldn't give me anything in writing that said "you are paying £1300 to change the colour of 3 components". Instead the marketing men chose to use phrases such as "exclusive leather seats" and "exclusive wheels" to conceal the con.

And yet, strangely, the vast majority of people (including me) have gone for it. Most people want the dark wheels, although many people would actually prefer not to have the red on the seats. There is another thread where a forum member is collecting names so that he can petition Nissan to see if it will be possible to have plain Black seats in the Black Edition, or even to pay extra to add the smoke wheels to the Premium Edition.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

in Japan you can order dark wheels without red seats, thats what I've got

also wanted light headlining...

I think the UK do this to limit the options to make it easier on spares for some reason

I spent £3,500 on a deposit and I haven't seen the specs (tyre choice etc - I thought Nissan has spent a million years with Bridgestone working out the best tyres - why would they then offer dumbos like us the choice???) - it seemed a reasonable enough question to me, tbh.

The black edition is so let down by those red inserts - you'll be able to have the wheels re-finished but having the upholstery changed wouldn't be possible I would have thought........I also think the black headlining might make it a bit gloomy in the cabin.

As for the Black paint, well, having run a black car for two years, I'd be going mad with the tiny hairline scratches on it - you just don't see them on a silver car.

Ultimate Silver all the way for me, but, it's a personal thing, colour choice.

:hehe: Spot on that post.
A niggling part of me thought that I wasnt getting anything extra.
Originally you had to pay it to get black or silver as a colour.
But then they let us talk them into having any colour. Thus, in short we begged to pay an extra £1300 for our cars.
This gave the subsequent opportunity to bump up the Silver price.

Agree about the black, had several black cars and although they are gorgeous when clean in the uk with our dirty roads and dirty rain they normally look rotten within an hour of being polished all morning, black does seam to be a softer paint and show more scratches / swirl marks as well

my last 3 cars have been silver since its easy to keep clean, hard to mark and very easy to sell, bored of it now especially as half of new cars seam to be silver and the rozzers use it now ....

Thanks for the replies - glad it's not just me that is confused
I'd quite like the dark wheels and don't mind the red bits on the seats and may even have chosen black paint but I'm not keen on paying an extra £1300 for "nothing" so I'll stick with premium

I may have chosen silver but again not if it costs more (unless the silver paint really does look the ultimate which doesn't seem to be the case according to what I've read)

I went for premium becasue I like a good car stereo - simple as that (the auto lights and wipers are a bonus which must cost Nissan peanuts to add)

I've had several black cars and they are a pain to keep clean. I chose red becasue I want a bright colour and don't think I could live with white.

I'm sure all of the colours will look great - I hate choosing the colour of a new car becasue it always makes you think you will pick the "wrong" one. The dealer suggested black would be the easiest to sell on but I reckon he just wanted me pay extra for the Black edition!

I picked the black edition for the wheels and the headlining. Not gloomy at all, it just the right color headlining for an all black interior and dark exterior color. Light headlining just doesn't fit in unless its a light color car, be honest now.

Really didn't fancy the red bits in the seats etc from the pictures, but in real life they're actually quite stunning. I'm not a racer boy, and can't be too flashy (the GTR has become my daily driver...). The red is a deeper red than it looks in most pics.

I still think, of course, that dark metal grey with the dark wheels is a killer combination.... I love how it suits the gundam look...

wondering if I have gone for the right color in choosing black ( black edition)

sounds like everyone will be in grey and titanium!

... so maybe black will be cool

remember polishing my Dad's black Celica as a teenager.... agree on the dirt but when clean and polished you couldn't beat it
