Quick RX7 question?

To make it short:

One of my best friends in europe has owned all sorts of cars and now wants to buy an R34GTR from japan. So I showed him some stuff and send him some pages from the japanese classfields ex . . . . . As it must have happened he managed to to look all interesting cars in thoses classfields (despite everything being in japanese) and now absolutly wants me to ship a cheap RX7 with his GTR.

So here's the link:
ƒ}ƒcƒ_・RX-7・•コŒノŒァ・‚f‚s‚m‚d‚s 西‹{‚フ’†ŒテŽヤ・’†ŒテŽヤ情•/ƒJーƒZƒ“ƒTーnet | ’†ŒテŽヤ詳細

the car is for sale at a not so bad shop( a shop specialized in GT cars , that can be found all over japan) and the RX7 only cost 480.000Yen, which is, not much at all (105.000km accidented but repaired). . . . so my question is: Is it 99% sure that every RX7 in that price range will be broken after a few km only and should I absolutly not try to buy such a crap for him. Pros are that this shop can't sell broken cars , as they have a reputation, a showroom and anyway japanese customers will rip them in to parts if they sell a car that blows up after 100km.
Right now you can find hundreds of RX7s between 400.000Yen and 800.000Yen, bargains or crap?

Somebody from the japanese members has delt with gtnet?

Thanks

Chris

I would recommed him buying the best one he can afford, its an old car, theres loads to go wrong, but saying that, a nice one is lovely. I should think you should be able to pick something reasonable up for about 900,000

Yes agree, my local RX7 tuner allways says 1.000.000Yen and 80000km is the line, after it gets nasty (but well he's a business man)
The issue here is that my mate doesn't really need an RX7 , he just thinks that for that price, if it holds , it's a bargain, as anyway the few that are left, old crapy EU-spec RX7 with on trillion km are still going for 15000Euros in europe.
Actually my mate is a dick head, ..sorry for that.

you need to add dealer taxes onto this car in japan many trade companies advertised the car at a lower price to get interest , when you call them this car will be 680,000 fob still cheap but its a repaired car..

they add the tax for the on the road price and if you want to export it they demand the OTR price still.

Actually I am not a car dealer, call it consulting

Actually a japanese dealer not need to ad tax when the car gets exported I think, some have done it, some not. . . .anyway when I am finished with them they usually give me the cars for less and cry.

Ahem... a new genuine 13B bare engine from Mazda costs more than the asking price of the car and that doesn't even bring fitting & the inevitable additional parts into the equation.

105,000km is a ticking time bomb on an RX-7.

Is that really so dramatic? What are the first things that go wrong? I mean it's not that the entire engines melts in to a pizza after 100k

Compression will usually drop from around high 7's to high 6's at around this mileage then quickly deteriorate to 5's and 4's thereafter due to engine wear as it nears the end of it's useful life. When these engines expire it's often an apex seal that breaks. If that goes out of the exhaust port then you can expect to need new turbo(s). It's not uncommon for this to happen especially from 100,000km onward. We wouldn't buy an RX-7 of anywhere near this mileage for a customer for these reasons. We stick to around half that amount as a rule.

Having said this, I've personally found rotaries to be robust and able to take a lot of hard use if looked after properly.

Every 100,000km expect to need to refresh / rebuild the engine on a 13B. Better it gets done before failing. If the engine's tuned & running more boost / big single turbo it will require this work sooner. That's normal for any tuned engine though, including RB26's, etc.

HTH
