Question HID bulb length

When putting the car through it's test, one of the things it failed on was the headlight pattern was all over the place.

After talking to a local garage, apparently he's seen this before and it's due to the length of the bulbs. After getting some normal H4's and taking the HID's out and they are about 2-3cm longer. Does anyone do bulbs the same size so the pattern is ok or has had this problem?

ta!

sounds like you retrofitted hids to normal lights, makes it brighter but messes up the beam pattern as you found, from what i understand, all retro hids are regular hid bulbs fitted to normal light bases ie h1, h7 etc and due to the differerence of how/where the light is generated between the two system means the regular headlamp assembly arn't compatible. Projectors are a better compromise but still not ideal.

They're aftermarket HIDs yeah, hence putting the normal H4's back in cured it. But if possible I'd like to use the existing ballasts, and just get some HID bulbs of the correct size, surely someone must do something like that?
