Folks that talk to dogs...

as if they can understand what the hell you are saying to them.

Walking to the shop earlier and about to overtake a woman with her dog on the pavement. Dog stops to have a sniff of something and woman says to it "oh come on Buster, you are being such a naughty boy. All this mucking about is going to make us late."

I mean FFS woman, do you REALLY think the dog understands what the hell you are on about or, even if it DID, give a flying feck if its late or not. : ::

Honestly, all this talking to animals like they understand what your talking about.....its the rantings of lunatics who should be locked up...

It's just like the episode of the Simpsons where Bart trains Santas Little Helper, what the dog actually hears is;

"Blah Blah COME ON Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah"

I hope I don't fall into this category. We have a labrador called Jack and I say the usual, "Jack, we're going walkies" and so on, but sometimes when he's pawing at me for attention or itching for a play fight I'll say, "hold on Jack, I'll kick your arse in a minute!"

Am I losing my mind?

When i picked up my miss`s last night, she said good buy to her dog. Then as she walked out i told her "you`ve left your tv on" she replied that it was on for the dog.

I talk to my cats. They are quite vocal, and can recognize questions by the lifting of tone at the end. They answer, so it's quite fun because I can have "chats" with them. I don't believe for a second though that they really understand what I'm saying, other than a few key words. Imagination does take flight though - on several occasions I could swear up and down on a bible that I thought I heard my Russian Blue mean "Toby?" ALthough cats can't articulate T's or B's so it sounded more like "Ro-Ree?" He's looking at me when he says this too.

One thing is indisputable though - they recognize their names (watch their ears turn towards you), often answer a meow in reply when called by name, and follow a few basic commands "come here", "on the bed", "off the counter". God only knows how much they really understand however. Much of it could just be simple conditioning.

I talk to my dog Sometimes I`d rather talk to my dog than my wife
BTW, we leave the radio on for him when we go out

One funny story that really makes me laugh remembering it was the day my wife hid some treats for our dog (as she always does) and then tells him to "find it", which then makes him seek them out and gives him something to do that excites him
This day though he was having trouble finding the last dog chew that was hidden. I asked my wife where it was...........she whispered "its by the TV" !!!!
Like he could of understood that!!!

Hmmm, I've been known to talk to my Snake (and I'm pretty sure they're deaf) ?

And the first person who inserts 'trouser' to the above statement will be receiving a visit from M+M !

I could swear our dog understands a fair bit of what we say... Sometimes I say to the wife in English or Japanese, "Shall we go? / Ikemasho?" The dog's up and by the door pronto, hoping we'll take her with us!

If I say her name, Frisbee, Breakfast, or Butamimi (Dried Pig's ear) in conversation she perks her ears.. or if someone in the street says "Kawaii" she knows she's about to get some attention.

Have to admit I do talk with her sometimes - she responds!
