oil pressure odities

During the last trackday, and driving home yesterday I noticed some bizzare oil pressure readings in the skyline.

Cold Idle is about 6bar+
Warm idle is normally about 2bar
Steady driving is about 4bar depending on rpm obviously

The gauge hast started to not act like a second rev counter, sometimes seeing just over 2bar at 4000rpm (norm 4bar) and just over 1bar on warm idle.

Switch the car off, restart and it goes from 1bar to 2bar idle.

Same oil as before (Valvoline synth 10w60), but this has seemed to have been occuring since the last oil change. (oil, oil filter and flush of cooler)

I have a feeling that the gauge (standard 18yr old dash one) is just playing up, but cant help being a bit nervous about it. Other thoughts i have are maybe when the thermo sandwitch plate opens to feed the cooler, its dropping pressure. Never noticed before though.

Anyone got thoughts on my issues? (oh, its a Nismo Oil Pump)

I had exactly the same problem with mine about 1 year ago. Panic sets in!! It was the sender on mine so i upgraded to a Defi pressure gauage.

That works perfectly. The dash one still plays up to this day!

As said before the original gauge or sender are really not up to scratch, hence why a lot of people fit after market gauges, namely the Defi range.

Mine does exactly the same. I shit myself the first time as I have just rebuilt my engine.

Next time it does it open the bonnet and tap the sender with a spanner, thats what I done with mine and up shoots the needle.

Encountered this problem on my friends R32; replaced the pressure sending unit to no avail, replaced the actual gauge unit inside the top din in the center console/dashboard & problem solved.
