World's best wheels ? ....

The world's best wheels ?

so you thought the best wheels in the world came from Japan ? Rays, BBS ?.....

DYMAG announce they are to offer their amazing Carbon Magnesium alloys in sizes for the New Nissan GT-R. Dymag based in the UK, home of Motorsport, have with the imput & assistance of GTC now able to offer their wheels to the GT-R world.

About Dymag
Dymag Racing has over the past 30 years established a reputation as a leading designer and manufacturer of racing & performance road wheels for car and motorcycles. This reputation has been built upon a unique understanding of the tradeoffs between weight, strength, stiffness, fatigue limits and impact performance. Dymag is about more than wheels, it is about utilising the latest materials technology & cutting edge design to produce the optimum wheel solution for any given application.
Dymag has been designing and manufacturing high performance car wheels & motorcycle wheels for over 30 years. Wheels made by Dymag are the product of proven engineering, racing experience and continuous striving for superior safety and performance

Dymag's client list encompasses most of the world's top car and motorcycle race series including Formula One, GT and Touring Car, Grand Prix and Superbike and many more.

Dymag's Mission

To be a true one-stop shop for all high performance wheel requirements. Dymag can offer
• Wheel design & development to specific customer parameters.
• Rapid prototyping.
• FEA and fatigue testing.
• Processes - Composites, Forging, Casting.
• Materials - Carbon Fibre, Magnesium, Aluminium.
• Quantities from four wheels to any volume production requirement.
• No known technology is beyond our capability.

Today, Dymag remains focussed on innovative design & engineering of high-performance products, developing and applying the latest in materials technology : carbon composites, forged magnesium and aluminium and cast magnesium and aluminium. It is currently the world's leading producer of carbon composite wheels.

Benefits
Carbon Fibre in this form is not only very strong, but is also resistant to shock.
The low weight but high stiffness of carbon Fibre rims produces a very light weight rim to wheel ratio, significantly reducing the moment of inertia and drastically reducing the amount of power required to start, stop, & turn the vehicle.

The effect of carbon/magnesium wheels when fitted to the car is to reduce the gyroscope effect of the wheel and ultimately producing the following effects:
1. Improved acceleration
2. Improved braking, reduced stopping distance
3. Greater fuel efficiency
4. Lighter, sharper steering
5. Allows for softer damper settings giving more tire contact & therefore better grip.
6. Tire temperatures are more stable.
7. Improved wheel & tire balancing.
8. Reduced rim weight has the effect of at least 5 times the static weight reduction.

Carbon Magnesium Car Wheel - Summary
The performance gain achieved by reducing the wheel mass (Un-sprung Mass) can be quantified using a factor of six. This means that to achieve the same performance gain by reducing the body mass, it is necessary to remove six times the wheel weight saving.

Example
A saving of 2Kg Per Wheel x 4 Wheels = Removing 48 Kg from the Bodywork.

In some instances, Dymag's Carbon Mag wheels have reduced the wheel weight by up to 5Kg per wheel, which equates to saving 120Kg from the bodywork to get the same performance advantage.

Colours
The Centre can be colour coded to match or contrast the vehicle

Orders now being taken by GTC / GTR23.com

Note each wheel is special made. 4-6 weeks.

so how much for a set for the GTR? Can they take the abuse of a 1740 kg mass + fuel + driver/passengers? ~2t car?

I looked at these for my GT2, but just could not get comfortable with the risks at high speed. The problem with carbon is they shatter on impact, rather than deforming slightly like alloy wheels. Top Gear crashed a CCX on the road when the rim shattered after hitting a cone.

I would be even less happy in a car that weighed as much as the GTR.

On track though I'm sure they are fine.

They were also the same price as magnesium BBS wheels (£5k per set), which were only 1kg heavier each.

They do look so good though.

Just my 2p worth.

They are never going to be as strong as alloys. Carbon fibre has its place, but as rims, I'm just not sold. They do look great though!

Actually, the Gobstopper does not have them anymore, this is a comment from someone on the American Subaru forum NASIOC who has visted Roger Clark motorsport:

Matt said the carbon wheels are light and generally strong, but they're prone to cracking.

Yeah seems the wheels do not like being run over kerbs at speed, and the odd off track excursion, apart from that the guys were very happy with them

Dymag claims there wheels can handle car weight of 2200kg and abuse. They supply wheels to alot of performance cars as stock wheels that most don't know about.

Accepted there are instances such as the TG accident. But DYMAG have sold alot of these wheels around the world, including to Lux Merc owners.

We've ordered one set for our customers R35 so will post up pics as and when

He went for the Dymags after Nismo JP refused to take $24,000 of his cash !
