Knobbers taking your bank details on THIS forum!!!

I recnetly had an item up for sale, had someone message me who was interested, asked for my bank details so that they could put the money in and then did c0ck all and didn't bother replying to any of my messages.

Now I know there is not much he . . . sorry, they can do with them, but it just annoys me.

Why have such an interest, take my details, and then ignore my messages when trying to contact them about the deal.

Oh... and it's not as though they aren't logging on and haven't got the messages, cos they log in pretty much daily . . . but never post.

You know who you are.

Rant over.

Bad idea giving out bank details via a forum though, get them to send a cheque or paypal or something...

Yeah, with hindsight I should have thought, but it seemed like a done deal and I did some research into this persons post history and they had bought from the forum before.

They also stated that their paypal account had been deleted or suspended or something.

Oh well, all I would have asked was that they contacted me and and said that they no longer wanted the item, instead I turned down 3 other offers whilst waiting.

Thats poor form mate. It would have been the decent thing to do to let you know they had changed their mind.

You should never give out bank details on the net under any circumstances... This is part of how Identity fraud takes place, And the ammount you have in the bank makes no difference they can still steal from you in one way or another.

Anyone who has a paypal account suspended should allready be treated as suspect anyway really, Afterall, There must be some good reason for Paypal to stop somebody using its services.

I hate Timewasters, Having been in the car trade in the past I have certainly seen my fair share of them.

to be honest you cant do much with just a bank sort code and account number

you need many more details

such as direct debits you may have set up
who pays your wage and how much
your balance
last time account was used

the list is endless

so dont worry too much about it..

Cheers for that!

I had thought so, but it still annoyed me the fact he was messaging me daily right up until he got my details. Then nothing.....

they can still set up direct debits though to piss you off!
like what happene to clarkson:
he put his sort code and acc number in the paper and someone set up a DD to a charity.

it is something to be aware of, i have dont it before and ive had no problems as yet but i have sometimes thought hmm shouldnt have done that.

i set up an account specifically for incoming payments though for me selling things.
made it so no DD's can be set up etc, only money can go in.

Can only be withdrawn by going in the bank.

Something to think about in the future etc?
