It's weird because I can understand it a couple of levels.
No 1 it's a challenge bit like building a model car/ship/whatever No 2 cost! I did at one stage consider getting an MR2 and sticking the kit on it. Why? Well insurance wise it becomes a kit-car and thus very cheap to insure (I was getting hacked off at Grand and above insurance quotes at the time). Also when you sell it people pay a fortune for them. Half decent ones were £15k. Not much chance of getting someone to pay £15k for an early model N/A MR2 (MK2) otherwise! Of course had I done so it would have either had no badges on it or (my preference) kept the Toyota. I couldn't see the point in pretending that it really is a 355 might as well be upfront that it's a replica or just a nice looking bodykit. There was a 360 kit floating about for the mk3 MR2 (or MR-S if you prefer) which was interesting. Personally I couldn't give two stuffs about the replica bit just that it's a decent looking (ie I like it!) bodykit. The last thing a was a kit called the Veranti for the mk2 MR2 which was a unique design . There was a new hard-top version just released so you didn't have to butcher the car. I was temped to pick up a tidy but high mileage UK MR2 stick the kit on and have Woodsport (sp?) drop one of their v6 conversions in. The result was to be a reliable, low running cost sports car with reasonable poke. MR2 parts are everywhere and the v6 is surprisingly economical (apparently). Of course I couldn't be arsed with all the bother involved so scrapped the idea. Found a pic of the targa version for those interested: ![]() |
