well I'm employed as a character animator but I do like to dabble in all kinds really esp. modelling and rendering/lighting/compositing. I enjoy modelling cars its quite therapeutic

I would try and find a softimage xsi learning course if you can - its a fantastic bit of software ...and with the 5000bhp R35 you pshop'd up some time ago how can you lose?! That by the way, still has me in stitches laughing esp. the bhp/torque curve image hehehehehe!

Great stuff mate. Actualy you are there, where I also used to be
I have a diploma for 2D drawing animation (animator-driector), but as I live in japan now I preferwork with cars, as working houres and salaries in the jap. animation branch are terrible (also as I am married).
My mate is now working for Lucas arts on the new StarWars series as 3D animator in Singapore. He basicly got a job in the CG after school and was able to make the jump from 2D traditional anime to CG.

Will try softimage . .by the way don't you know some link where I can download the soft for . . euhhh free! Just PM me if you have something.

Regards

Chris

PS: Ahh the torque curve !!!!!! . . . . it has been adjusted now to 1000000000000HP and 100000000000000000NM at 0,00001 rpms

okies found a bit of time (after getting a laptop for home usage lol) to get the details done on this one - see what you all think:

fuelcap added..

door handle added (bloody pain in the butt) ..added the indy light and the GT badge too ..red is the correct colour aint it? Blue is the NA ones iirc...

CU....

side shot - are the wheels way too big or is it the abscense of a sideskirt do you think?

anyone interested in the wireframes here you go

I don't think the wheels are too big I just think it's the colour on the dark background that's making them stand out.

Although it is still looking amazing I think a finishing touchwould be a badge in the middle of the wheels

yeah think your right there - need to add wheel bolts and a logo on the wheels as you say and adjust the Vspec badge on the back. The car also needs sideskirts as its quite high up at the sides compared to the front with its speedhump scraping splitter. I think this raised side is giving the effect of the wheels being massive too.

thanks for your thoughts tho - I really wanna get this finished now

it looked fantastic look forward to the finsih product.

I did spot a little error :P the brakes should be at the front of the wheel. I do think the wheel is alittle bit too big. also a decent set of 400R side skirts will set the car off nicely.

Leon.

hey guys
here's a turntable render of the R33 as it stands. I did get a sideskirt modelled which I think helps the wheel look less big. right click on the link below (qtime movie approx 5mb)...

http://www.anthonymcgrath.co.uk/WIP/...urntable01.mov

here's a list of things I need to add:

1 adjust the fuel cap a touch
2 adjust spoiler
3 add sideskirts - DONE!
4 add rear spats
5 rubber trims around windows
6 brake should be at the FRONT of the wheel doh!
7 add bolts to wheel
8 add logo cap to centre of wheel (anyone know what the wheel is that I've modelled?)
9 adjust Vspec badge its just a flat polygon shape at the moment... can anyone tell me if its a sticker or an actual badge?

updates...

thanks everyone for the kind words again.

GtstTypeM - well I've been working with Maya for about 9-10 years now lol (starting from knowing nothing) and theres still things in it that make me think wtf?! Depends on what your interested in really - if you like the idea of modelling then anything like 3dsmax, maya or softimage xsi is good but then theres specific modelling apps like mudbox, silo and zbrush too now - some of these are better for things like organic character modelling tho - things like Gears of war have used it to its full effect. just pick one up, get online, chase some tutorials and keep knuckling on - it becomes addictive especially when you have a project on the go.

anyhow here's some more updates - I decided not to do a car vs car thing - instead I thought I'd do a short 30 second advert. My concept is to show the car racing through some neo-tokyo city streets from all kinds of angles - the neon lights will flicker and blur and streak in a time-lapse photo style (I hope!). Then the camera pulls out and the city roads form the R in the GTR logo. Its not exactly original in concept but I thought it'd be fun and I can be bothered modelling another vehicle and thought it'd be fun to get the right tokyo/bladerunner feel.

here's some pics - thoughts n comments welcome

here's a recent update - been working on the background city mostly - getting lots and lots of neon signs in there for a proper tokyo city at night feel. the light trails are pshop'd in but hopefully I'll be able to get the same effect in motion...

and I couldn't resist importing the R34 into the scene and putting the two together..
