Realistically, would 5.5k buy you a R33 GTR?
Seen a few advertised for 6.5k and some as low as 6k, but unfortunately dont have as much as that. Weve been offered 5.5k for our car by a friend and would love to buy a GTR with the money, but is that realistic in todays market?
Im in the same boat as alot of people at the mo and just dont have spare cash lying around, so our car would pretty much have to cover the cost of a replacement. Whatever that ends up being. |

Yeah, sure plenty of peeps would be happy to sell you a complete pile of steaming shite for 5.5K before warning you it will cost another 5K to keep it on the road a year and 8K to rebuild the shagged engine they just sold you.
![]() Reality check time. Sorry for being so blunt but -shrug- its true. |

Crail Loser is right. I have a track record of buying at the bottom end of the price bracket and regretting it later on. Save yourself a headache and buy a top dollar R33 (making sure it really is worth top dollar!) because that £5k saving would be eaten up in a heartbeat if it's knackered.

Thanks i appreciate the advice, just didnt appreciate the manner in which Crail Loser replied, with his little wave smiley, lol.
Having said that, a friend paid £11.5k for a GTR about 6 months ago and it lasted 24hrs ![]() Bought it from a trader who he's had to take to court and its doubtful he will get his money back even though he won the case. Money pit springs to mind ![]() |

Probably better off getting an Evo tbh, im not keen on the looks of the R32 but then thats just my opinion. Alot of the gas guzzlers have shot down in price recently, i cant believe some of the prices im seeing for relatively new imprezas/evos, etc.
Buyers market i guess, but im in the same position as ive gotta sell before i can buy. |

You are right however, I was harsh and for that I apologise however look at it from my side as a repairer. So many people buy into these cars without the slightest comprehension of what they are buying and seem oblivious if not surprised at the cost of the repair when it all goes wrong. A 50K car is still a 50K car regardless of the fact you bought it for under 10K, the fact it sold for less than the sum of its parts does not make those parts any cheaper to repair or maintain. So at 5.5K what I am now trying polietly to say is you are at the arse end of an already depressed market full of vehicles that are teetering on a knife edge of a hefty repair bill. I am just being realistic about both your chances and the reality of skyline ownership, I should know I have owned and still do own one. I work late and avoid labour bills on mine and its still (next to the wife obviously) the sigularly most expensive toy I own. I can honestly wish you the best of luck but what I said was true and I say it to all my customers, buying the car is the easy part, its keeping it on the road that will break you. |

I'd agree with lum90 and Crail, unless you get extremely lucky and find some poor soul who has no choice to sell and no buyers I do not think you have much chance of getting a reliable, road worthy R33 GTR for that kind of money - Certainly not one in this country, you may find something at auction in Japan though.
The trouble is that getting something that warrants a price as low as that will almost certainly require some major work to get it to an acceptable standard. E.g. this R32, which I take to being A+ standard (Immaculate 32 GTR for Sale) went for a substantial amount over £5.5k (and it’s an R32!) Still, don't give up looking, you may get lucky. However If you do find one please please make sure you get it thoroughly inspected first, otherwise you may be looking at a car needing some major (expensive) external and internal 'mending'. (have a look through the For Sale section here to gauge an idea of how much parts go for, as well the average costs of 2nd hand cars that a respected within the GTROC. Best of luck. |

I could spend the next hour posting links to 5.5k scoobies/evos that i would consider good value at the moment and relatively new but you probably know better. The auction route is possible i guess ![]() |
