Question GT40 (Kit car GTD40)?

Does anyone know anything about the GTD40 - it's a kit car replica of the Ford GT40, manufactured by a company that was based in Birmingham I believe.

The reason I ask is that I have the chance to pick up one of their cars for a ridiculously low price. The condition of the car seems good, very low mileage - it's been standing a long time. Trouble is, I don't know much about the cars (reliability, maintanence, spare parts and the like. It'll probably need some work to get it up to scratch = good project car)

Main reason I'm interested (as a second car) is that it's 40 inches high, has a 5 litre engine, over 300bhp and does 0-60 in around 5 seconds

Any info much appreciated!

Dave

Well I did some searching, found someone who could bid on the car, then I found that the reserve prices is 6million yen!!!

Far cry from the current price

Ford is going to produce an "all new GT40". The idea is to update the original car but still keep it looking like the old one. Rumours are some time next year!

Colin,

Tough decisions. R32 Drag Car or New GT40? Oh the choices you'll have to make!

Yeah, the prices is going up big time - it initially came on the auction at 100,000 yen (500 quid!!!!! ), but with less than a day remaining the highest bidder has reached 1, 700,000 yen...

still, for a GTD40 that's done all of 470 odd miles its still a bargain...

I mailed the chap directly about it and he said £28k Sterling to get it to the UK (then VAT + Duty ) making it over £40k in UK (for which I could buy a brand new RHD one from the same people who made his! Shame because I really fancy one now (but would have to sell the Skyline to finance so no!)

Im thinking R32 Drag Car, i saw and was in a R-34 for the first time, and i am 100% in love with Skylines, and not being able to get it on the road, kinda makes it hard to spend the 100,000+ CDN for a 34, so why not have the fastest thing at the track and still have a little left over the down-payment on that GT-40, and hey, its just money.

Thumbs up

About 8-9 years ago now the company I worked for won
the contract to build 25 GT40 chassis to the old design, not
the GTD40's tubular steel way, but proper steel panels.

Unfortunately being a race car that was developed quickly
nothing fitted and all original GT40 are actually 1.25 inches
longer on one side.

So I had the job of redrawing the front suspension steering
and the sills containing the rubber fuel tanks.

The cars were for Ford and their chassis numbers ran
consecutively from the originals, making them originals!

As the GT40's had their famous victory in the 60's, no one
believes me when I say I worked on original designs being 30.

I still have some of the original drawings, (which I tried to
flog to GTD ), and even met Carol Shelby who was also
involved in the 40's.

Good old days really.
