lol Little oops in the down hill..
SO we had this fantastic idea the other night, lets go to the mountains! It was grand, me in the R32, John in the Z32, and Jay in the LS Vtec CRX. We bolted up Estes at 1am and decided to go up Glen Haven pass which is a little more technical and less patrolled. On the final portion of the canyon there is a set of 2 consecutive hair pins at a 45 degree angle (so 4 turns all together) ran them and had a ton of fun.
Seen Here: ![]() On the way down we switched positions and i was bringing up the rear. On the second set i had too much speed leaving the last one and then brake fade caught me off guard and i put myself right off the road. Thankfully the soft sand stopped me quickly as there was an 8ft cliff not but 6 feet from where we stopped. No MAJOR damage done but i did manage to take out a sign, trash my front bumper (fixable) crinkle my right front fender and smash my corner light to bits. Nothing done to the mechanics though. But we were deep in the mountains so no signal, thankfully my friends stuck with me and helped me get the car out of the soft sand and get it home with no problems. FEW! ![]() So I have officially found the limitations of my car with few regrets! |

lol Good Question!
I figure Ive never made a mistake like that before and certainly not here on our own resident mountain, so I think a lot of it was car set up... and that's none! Really in all humility i had no business putting my car through those paces in her condition and tune (again, none lol) with stock, worn to hell suspension, crap for tires that were too narrow, and not bad, but poor brakes. |

Would the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Tommy Makinen or Dale Ernhart have crashed also in your car doing the same thing?
My point is, although there were a number of contributing factors to "your off" very rarely do us "mortal" drivers ever reach the limits of the car we are driving and more often than not amibition overtakes ability at a fairly rapid rate. Most of us have done it at some time or another |

Oh yeah absolutely I got your point. What I should say is that Ive reached the limits of my own ability and from here will continue to practice. Entertaining story non the less.

if you're always driving well within your abilities (and that of your car for that matter), you are never improving your skills, not one whit.

too true
went out playing in a tvr tonight, now that you need to concentrate on! the only thing you have to help you not spin it is a accelerator pedal with a huuuuge travel is a good lesson of how to drive properly though, as there is nothing to help you. very responsive though, can feel everything through the steering and pedals etc.
