You've borked the hicas module.

The same control module does the hicas and speed sensitive power steering, when it faults, you lose power steering assist.

You should have a hicas fault light up on the dash as well. Search for and find the diagnostics procedure for what has made it fault, unless you have removed the hicas module..

Nope, the hicas module is the electronics module under the parcel shelf in the boot, on the drivers side.

The hicas solenoid valve is the bit at the front of the car.

As long as the electronics module is still there, and the fault light globe still works you should be able to enter the diagnostics mode and see what you are missing to keep the power steering working properly.

or, live with having stuffed your power steering up. Some people like it that way, I finally got around to fixing mine after a year and a half of owning the car, and I like the power steering now.
