Uprdated Radiator Caps - encourage pourous block

Been to RB today as my car seems to be losing a small amount of coolant after a few checks etc.. the block has become porous round the oil banjo on the block near the rear turbo. Coolant leaks out a little.
This has only happened since sticking on a nismo uprated Rad Cap (1.3Bar pressure instead off 0.9).

Rod said dont worry about it they can fix it sometime but means turbos off to do it. Perahps a word of warning to anyone thinking of fitting one for bling factor... Mine was for track days honest ;-)

i think it would have been gone anyway mate but maybe the extra pressure has set off the leak a bit more?

I always get mixed up between RB and RK Tuning, but one of them can supply a ceramic additive - basically empty rad of coolant, flush until its clear water. Pop in the additive and drive around for a few days. the chemical reacts with air and hardens, so seals up the porous bits without sealing the whole block up .

FLush it all out after a few days, add water and coolant and you're off again.

Its fairly common, my old block did it. Coolant additive is unlikey to fix permanently.

Turbo off, clean area completely and grind slightly with a dremel, then use some `JB Weld` liquid metal over the area. This should provide a good repair. Dont use other makes of liquid metal as JB weld has higher thermal stabilty (250 - 300C Vs 120C of other types)

Thanks for the info. Rod mentioned the ceramic stuff on the outside of the block to fix it.. hence dont worry about it.. The only cost really is the labour messing about taking turbos off etc..

Is it likley to get substantially worse over the course of say 4000miles? Currently im losing an expansion tanks worth after a few weeks of driving say 1000 miles. (Im keeping an eye on my coolant levels very reguarly)..

just give me a bit of time to save up if its going to continue using coolant at this rate

Uprated radiator caps can show up other weaknesses in the cooling system. Haven't really heard of this happening much before with RB's though. Get it fixed ASAP but if it's only weeping and not dribbling out then it's probably okay for a while.
