Indeed...I remember the EVO guys were amazed that the GT-R could keep up with a standard Z06 on the dragstrip. The fact that motortrend imply that if the conditions aren't perfect and/or you're not a professional racing driver the GT-R is at least as quick as the ZR1 is sufficient cause for celebration. However, I won't be tracking my car but I'm sure will enjoy driving it, enjoy the famous japanese reliability and the practicality of having two occasional seats and a good-sized boot in a supercar. For me the car to compare the GT-R too would be the ferrari 612 scaglietti. I can't afford a 612 but I suspect if i could I'd still have the GT-R instead!

I do a lot of PR work and this has the feel of a "US is best" bias

I wonder who advertises more on this site? :-)
You think! What gives you that idea? LOL Loved the donut around the GTR at the end.

Reminds me of my Tuscan (piece of crap) V's my Scoob. The TVR was faster but only in limited circumstances.

Corvettes have a long history, but at the end of the day, it's still a Chevrolet. Which is like being a Kia. Saying you drive a Chevy isn't exactly a mark of honor. The performance is there, especially as of late, but when you sit in one, you can, well, feel the family ties with the rest of the Chevrolet lineup.

But 600+ horsepower is nothing to laugh at, that's for sure. There's a mid-engined Korean car in final development, prototypes running around. Their top model pushes 600bhp with twin turbos. It's no doubt quick. Haven't seen the interior though - I wonder if they borrowed Hyundai bits for that as they borrowed the Hyundai V6 drivetrain?

Kismetcaptain,

That is the same argument Porsche use about the GTR being a Datsun and that gets all the Nissan boys upset, so a bit off saying the ZR1 is just a Chevy!!

Chevy Corvettes have a good history in competition too, just look at the GT class.

Let's face it, the GTR is a great car due to very clever technology whereas the ZR1 is a well honed hotrod that can really corner - both great cars that may appeal to different people that's all.

Cheers,

Could it be any more biased. Means nothing. In every day use (which is where most of the driving takes place) the GT-R is MUCH better. Track and dyno stats are fine but does 0.5 secs here and there REALLY matter to normal every day use. It's all hype.

Nice vid but a tad biased. i'm impressed the yank goes round a corner that well! I think if it was wet the gtr would cream it though!!!
When you factor in the price difference its a bit of a daft comparison test. roll on v spec.

Any time, anywhere any how . . . .!

ZR1 is out on the wet, on the humid, on the dusty, on the muddy, on the snowy, one the icy, on the leave covered streets ex . . . . . the R35 not. That's the difference between the GTR and the rest "use for this condition only" super cars!

It seems like the new Benchmark has been set by the GTR and all other cars will have to try and beat the GTR even if they cost twice the price and have twice the power!!

Cheers,
touché. in the end, we're definitely fanboys to our particular marque. Corvettes have done astonishing things at 24 heures Le Mans, so we can throw the "Corvettes can't corner" thing straight out the window.

C4 Corvette engines (the 5.7 liter LT1) have found their way into more than a couple Skyline engine bays in the US. Twin-turboed, there's some mighty power there, and LT1 engines are cheap and plentiful. But at this power level, RWD shows its weaknesses compared with computer-controlled 4WD. If that weren't the case, the Mk IV Supra would be the undisputed king of JDM cars.

2 very different cars, both great value for money and both showing up the Eurotrash for what it is.

i can't believe the 1/4 mile times in that motor trend article. how the hell do they all hit the finish line in low 11 second bracket? surely that's not accurate???
