Tested: GT-R vs ZR1 and ZR1 wins

And here is the first test between them:
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vs. 2009 Nissan GT-R Comparison Test

This is also the first test I've ever seen where the GT-R is not rated as no. 1.
No wonder, 480 vs 638 hp, the ZR1 is leading in all performance areas, 1/4 mile, top speed, breaking and turning. ZR1 is the fastest and the best.
But as noted in the test on page two the GT-R is far more useful, more easy to take full advange of and is a more advanced car.
A ZR1 on the other hand is a traditonal Corvette with a lots of performance part and a blown 6,3 lire engine in front. That means a cheap interior, low budget solutions and litte to distinguish it from the Z06.

Put the Corvette on the Nurberg ring, at least it's out of its own back yard then

Test

That reads as quite a good objective test.

To me that says the Corvette, though slightly more expensive is really a much quicker car on track and, if you have the high level of skills required, on the road as well.

If conditions are less than perfect, or you arent a seriously handy driver, the GTR is going to be quicker.

Two seriously cool cars.

I'll take one of each.

Thumbs up

Nice looking car. My mate just bought a new regular one. 6 litre I think.

I think the ZR1 will cost 100k in the UK? so it is like comparing the GTR to the space shuttle for me as I can't afford it. More to the point I'd buy a GT3RS if I had that kind of cash. As usual it is nice seeing it against the best of the best.
Most of my time I'll be bashing porkers, M3's and VXR corsas

thats exactly the point.
£100k.

i had a really good look round a zr1 at the motor show. and it is a bucket of shite re. build quality. The GTR is a proper car.

zr1 reminded me of a tvr.

and yes 100k would buy a gt3 rs for that kind of money.

£100k vs $100k

Its funny to think that in America the V-Spec will probably cost more than the ZR-1's $100k and will probably still not be significantly better in perfromance terms. I suspect that in US tests it will therefore not be seen as a huge step forward from the ZR-1 in terms of bang-for-buck.

However in the UK, where the V-Specs rumoured £80k price tag will undercut the ZR-1 considerably, it will seem like a performance bargain compared to the ZR-1.

6.2L LS3.

This just in:

Quote:
http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/28/c...off-ring-time/

Corvette ZR-1 knocks four seconds off 'Ring time

Back at the Nürburgring, the hot Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 has just ripped four seconds off its claimed 7:26 lap. The new time, with Jan Magnussen at the wheel, is a claimed 7:22.4 for the full 12.93-mile loop. While the number is pretty bloody fast, it is still .3 seconds off the time earned by the Dodge Viper ACR (ouch, those three tenths really have to hurt!). We take these lap times with a grain of salt, as we've yet to see everyone on the 73-turn course under the same conditions, and with officially certified timing equipment. Again, so you don't have to Google the competition's best-claimed Ring times yourself, here they are: Porsche GT2 - 7:32, Nissan GT-R - 7:29, Corvette ZR1 - 7:22.4 and the Dodge Viper ACR - 7:22.1.

Motor Trend

The MT article was rough on the GT-R but I cannot understand why they are using the Bridgestones when the Dunlops are the much better track tyre

Nice car and extremely quick.

If you want the fastest out there this appears to be it, for me the practicality and price of the GTR (and Nissans pas history of reliability) win out. Would have been nice if the GTR had been faster than it but it boils down to what you'd rather - practical supercar or the all out fastest one. Could always change the exhasut and remap the GTR to bring it closer flat out.

I can't understand why the 599 did so well on track. That's not typical of where it is in most tests.

just watched the vid

zzzzzr1 is unbeatable... try some rain and then try again

with all of this stuff, how old is the GTR ie they need 10k miles before the true power comes out. Transmission loss for calc for BHP etc etc

I do a lot of PR work and this has the feel of a "US is best" bias

I wonder who advertises more on this site? :-)

im from canada, and recently saw the zr1 at a car show, the price tag was $125000 canadian.

The gt-r is $80000 canadian. thats 56% more. the zr1 is no longer the best "BANG" for the buck.

according to that video, the gt-r has roughly 18% drivetrain loss, while the zr1 has 26%. The ZR1 is putting to the wheels, what the z06 makes at the crank. yet people still believe that the z06 cannot be beaten by the gt-r and all the tests were biased or rigged or a scam or "insert anti gt-r comment". The zr1 is faster than the gt-r, obviously, it has carbon brakes, more power, less weight, it should be much faster than it is.

the gt-r is more efficient, and ive got my fingers crossed that the v-spec takes out both the acr and the zr1, the american car lovers at work are driving me crazy.
