alternator whine

Hi Guys,

I have a R33 GTS-t with a Kenny psm9531 head unit, two genesis amps to focal compnents in the front and rear.

I have just started to get alternater whine in the front speakers (the pitch varies as the cars revs do) but not the rear. The Phono cables are routed the same so cant work out why just one amp is getting the whine... Both get the supply and earth from the same location.

so I swapped amps over and still the whine is there...I have fitted a surpressor to the altenator to no effect - so what else could it be?

Shaun

have you tried a second earth some were else ? i'd have a look were the wires are from the front speakers to see what other wires they are running next to then lift the speaker wires away from the other wires if you can and see if that whine goes ? just rules out 1 thing inside the car.

are you earthed to the battery's negative cable position?

try another earth point for the amps and wiring, that is a common problem IMO

i thought about that too but it should be doing it through the rear speakers too if the reason was the earth from the battery cable ?

strange that then realy

fitted all my 6x9's behind the front door cards and replaced the rears with 6x9's too with one amp mounted the the removable plate behind the rear seats and the enclosed carpeted sub box has a built in amp plus 2 tweeters up front in the corners on the dash righ up againts the pillars and my head unit is earthed from the original head unit earth plus my amps earthed in the boot with the main power lead coming through the bulk head down then drivers side ( if i remember right ? ) then through into the boot and i dont get any interfearance from bad connections or any thing alike , sounds comes out quite nice

just many cars ive done amps and speaker installs and never realy had much problem like that besides if the battery is on it last legs and wont hold charge properly so it picks up a direct current from the alternator causing a whine .

altanator whine

My speaker cables that run to the front, are fed down the left hand side of the car as the main battery cable goes down the right.
The RCA cables are quality mylar film triple screened things that run down the middle of the car and where the cables meet another set i have tried to go at right angles.

I had read on here before that I should not use the earth on the car loom to run the head unit, so I have run another earth cable and bolted it to the chassis of the head unit via the nut at the end of the unit ( mounting thing) I have also connected the harness earth to this - so the earth wire from the head unit connects to my new earth wire. this is then joined up with the amp's negative feed at the battery end of the car.
I have even put a surpressor on the altantor...

i know it might sound pointless but try disconnecting your car battery and connecting another car battery to it , just rest the battery on top if its a different size/shape as these batteries on the skylines are not of the best performance .

its just one more thing to eliminate from any cause of the problem.

also try if you can of lifting those wires away from the other set that they meet down the middle while the music is playing.

having the best coated rca's doesnt garentee any thing if there is a bad enough intefearance
