I'm interested in hearing the results of the engine autopsy. What if engine knock physically damaged a piston - for example, cracked the wrist pin during the 300kph run, then fell into two pieces when the car went back to idle? Then Nissan would have a legitimate claim there due to ignition remapping.

I don't trust octane ratings from purchased fuel. In Korea, they could cheat you outright, and some stations have been caught with spiking fuel with various chemicals to increase profits (most industrial chemicals are much cheaper than fuel).

So I always run 50% toluene to insure octane is above 100.

But if it's something else, like a failed oil pump, well, even if the car is running 1000bhp that doesn't affect how the oil pump works. Then you've got a legitimate claim.
