It states that the noise goes at faster speeds - what a great excuse !!

I will probably just turn the stereo up the stereo and press the loud pedal harder.

This would make sense because i never hear it at higher speeds - only ever in the 20 - 40mph range - and always from the rear of the car, BUT, not all the time. Most likely to occur after some enthusiastic driving, mostly doesnt bother me, but doesnt look or sound good as you cruise past a porker sounding like an old jalopy!

Mine has now expanded its range to go up to 60mph. More worrying is a real bang from the offside rear suspension on bumpy corners at fast speeds. It sounds like a strut top mount come loose - I'm sure it isn't, but thats what it sounds like....

Does it differ with the mode of the suspension?

Nope - In all suspension modes....... however, I've asked about a separate problem re the suspension modes - there is definitely a difference between Normal and R mode - you can feel it immediately. However Normal & Comfort seem to be the same!

Suspected it for a while and then had the opportunity to test it on the E42 from Lille to Dunkerque. This road has some long stretches of incredibly rough surface so was able to switch in and out of Comfort mode several times. Neither I or my passenger could notice any difference in ride quality....... one for the 6000 service I think!

MY CAR WAS MAKING THOSE NOICES AND THEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STOP GOING INTO 1ST, 3RD, 5TH AND REVERS GEARS. I THOUGHT I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSSION BOX AND MY CAR IS AN IMPORT.

YOU WILL NOT BELEIVE THIS. I HAD IT TAKEN TO MY FRIENDS GARAGE TO GET IT ON THE RAMP. HE SUGGESTED WE TRY TO FIND WHERE THE TRANSMISSION PAN IS SO WE CAN TAKE THE OIL OUT AND SEE IF IT NEEDS NEW OIL. WHEN WE OPENED THE TRANSMISSION BOX UP TO MY HORRER (AND JOY) THERE WAS NO TRANSMISSION OIL IN IT AT ALL. ON 5 DROPS CAME OUT AND I AM NOT EXAGGERATING THIS. SO WE PUT SOME STANDARD GEARBOX OIL IN TO SEE IF THAT WOULD RECTIFY THE PROBLEM, AND LONG BEHOLD THE CAR WAS GOING INTO ALL THE GEARS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I AM NOW ORDERING THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION OIL EVEN THOUGH MY FRIEND IS SAYING THAT IT IS SAME AS THE ONE HE HAS PUT IN.

HOWEVER, MY FRIEND HAD NOTICED THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN FOR A SERVICE IN JAPAN 2000KM BEFORE AND THAT THE BOLT WHICH YOU RELISE THE TM OIL HAD BEEN OPENED BEFORE BUT NOT THE BOLT WHERE YOU PUT IT IN FROM.

SO HE RECONS EITHER THE MANCHANIC AT NISSAN IN JAPAN FORGOT TO PUT IT IN (UNLIKLY) OR THAT THEY SIMPLY DIDNT PUT IT IN ON PORPOSE.

HE RECONS THAT THESE NOISES THAT COME FROM THE GEAR BOX LIKE PLATES RATTLING WHEN THE GEAR GO UP AND DOWN ARE DOWN TO THE FACT THAT THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH TM OIL IN THE TRANSMISSION.

PLEASE BE VARY OF THE NISSAN DEALERS. THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED FROM THE TOP TO DO THIS.

Why would they have been instructed to not refill the oil? A cynical ploy to sell more gearboxes whilst devaluing their brand?

The plug at the botom of the oil pan when removed only drips out a couple of times this is what is suposed to happen thats how you know its at the correct level... when the plug is removed the hole has a sleve in it with another allen key hole through it this stands up in the box through the oil, thats why you only got a few drops out, you need to remove the tube to drain the oil, you and your mate have over filled the transmition by the sounds of it..

As for putting normal gear oil in it good luck with that lol i hope you have a spare 10k plus for a new box..

This is why Nissan have HPC dealers to maintain the cars as the normal mechanic has no training and wont know these things and it will be your pocket that takes the sting at the end of the day so good luck mate..

You might be surprised how well and how many people around the world are using 'normal' atf oils. It's funny quite a few independent tests are coming out, oil specialists have analyzed the official Nissan rebranded stuff
