Need a mobile phone holder??

Well, hot on the heels of the Zele 4 light kit the other day, I needed to get my iPhone mounted somewhere where I could see who's calling, and also be able to charge whilst on the move.

I acquired a range of custom brackets and altered one until I got the following...

In this last shot you can see the rather heavyweight bolts/nuts used to hold my Brodit iPhone holder to the mount. I may well change those at the weekend for something a little more subtle.

Also, I will be installing the charger cable at the weekend just as soon as I can get hold of a black iPhone cable.

This mount can be used in conjunction with any Brodit holder, so if they make one for your phone, this mount will take it.

I had been waiting for other companies to provide a solution but got tired of waiting.

I may be able to get these made but it would depend upon numbers as the more I get, the cheaper they become obviously.

Install requires a phillips screwdriver and about 5 mins of your spare time.

As usual, any questions, just ask!

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Nice work CC - shame Brodit don't do a custom GTR bracket... I did email them in Sweden a couple of months back but they don't (or didn't then) and weren't in any hurry to launch one, from what I could tell. It's a shame, because they do very nice 'pop in' brackets for mainstream cars that fit into the seams between panels and don't require any screws.

I'd certainly be up for a custom-fit bracket if you manage to refine yours!

Cheers lads.

I've been in contact with several makers of dashboard mounts with zero success, hence my bit of diy. I had hoped Dashmount here in the UK would be getting one out but they're dragging their heels (even though the MD has a ruddy GTR!!).

The mount I've used is a proper professional mount, adapted by me to fit the GTR. The mount is screwed into place by an original screw in the dash so it is firm and non-damaging. I'd say it's 90% perfect, just needs a slightly different shape to make it perfect. Right now though it's good enough.

I've also mounted my TomTom 740 in front of the RH air vent and run the wiring in the dash so I've only my "laser parking system" left to fit and then I'll be cooking!

CC - what vent mount did you use? Is this an active (i.e. clip-on) TomTom mount, or do you have to plug the power cable in underneath the 740 unit?

Quick note for those of you who are interested in proper GTR-specific mounts - I have been in email dialogue with Pro Clip USA (as recommended by TomTom etc.) and they have sent me the following:

Quote:
Due to the upcoming vacation for our company the GT-R mounts will be developed in August and should be ready for online sales late August or early September. We will keep you posted.
These clips are similar (identical?) to the well-known Brodit clips, so should suit a wide variety of devices e.g. iPod, phone, SatNav etc.

Will let you know when I hear definite dates/availability...

Hi all - long time lurker, second time poster, got my GTR (UK, non-nav) this weekend. still grinning.

On the subject of iphone holders - I was thinking a nicer, and less permanent solution would be a simple 'air vent' holder such as this one;

Arkon Air Vent Mount – iWorld.co.uk

As to how good it will look, or whether it can cope with the G forces it will be subjected to in the GTR remains to be seen - but - looking at the picture in that link, and looking at my dash - I reckon I could be onto a good thing. Especially as I think it will be more 'elegant' to have the satnav/phone functions higher up, so I don't have to glance down towards my passengers knee (not so bad depending who the passenger is)

I'll look around to see if I can find any other 'air vent holder type' iphone holders and if not, I'll go with this Arkon unit and will report back with photos.

Anyone done this? Any recommendations ?

or just found this - reckon will look sleeker.

Herbert Richter Apple iPhone 3GS vent mount bundle – (1582) :: Apple iPhone 3GS :: Apple :: Accessories by Device :: PDA Hut

Lack of pivot to provide horizontal may not be a problem as the vents twist around - but depends on how 'robust' the clips are securing the iphone on...

Sorry if everyone already knows this, but Brodit now have a GT-R specific mount on their website. I have used their mounts for a number of years & am quite keen to get another one for my premium edition arriving later this year

This might work. It plugs into the power outlet to the left of the steering wheel. Not sure how high it will go though.

Universal Mobile Phone, PDA, Ipod and many others products can be held securley using the Universal Suction Mount Car Holder. This Mount will hold your device securely in the car. The suction arm will fit to the windscreen or the console of the vehicle, your choice. The holder is universal and will hold most devices. This Holder has a kind of hydraulic opening and closing mechanism. The Holder also comes with a removable plate for you to insert a picture to add that personal touch.
